The roles of high temperature chemistry in nuclear systems were studied and discussed from various aspects. Especially, concerning the nuclear fuel cycle, uranium enrichment, fuel fabrication, physical/chemical properties and performance of fuel, reprocessing, and waste management were brought into focus, which were studied and discussed in relation with high temperature chemical processes in gas, liquid, and solid phases. And the engineering problems to be overcome for the realization of the effective mutual conversion system of thermal-chemical-electrical energy, as well as that of the energy transportation and storage system in nuclear systems were investigated and discussed thoroughly from the aspects of high temperature chemistry, where hydrogen energy system was considered as one of the promising future energy system. Furthermore, recent basic studies of materials for high temperature chemical processes were introduced and discussed, which included the creation of advanced functional materials available for the high temperature chemical processes, various material properties necessary for being used in high temperature environments, and the engineering problems and their break-throughs in applying various materials at high temperature.
