    The ceramic industry has recently been making remarkable progress coupled with the expansion of the overseas market. According to the diffusion of the heat control techniques and also the improvement of the kilns, fuel consumption has been rationalized and increased by about 30% for the latest five years together with the increase of the ceramic ware production. As for the fuel as heat energy source in the ceramic industry, the author outlined its selection, rational utilization as well as the changing pattern of its consumption.

    Since the Reorganization of Electric Power Companies in 1951, the stringent power situation was experienced for several years lacking in power supply for the demand by growing industries, however, persistent effort to develop new power resources resulted in the stable situation with reserve capacity as much as approximately 10 percent in 1964.
    Meantime, a hydraulic power generating which had been a main power supply pattern in our country has been exhausted in its rational develop spot, but on the other hand a thermal power has rapidly become economical due to the progress of a thermal engineering, so that thermal power resources has become a mainstay for developments of a power supply since around 1955. As a result, thermal power capacity has been totalized up to about 60 percent in 1964, while that in 1951 amounted only about 30 percent.
    With a rapid increase of thermal power facilities we have encountered many problems concerning a thermal power engineering and we make an effort to solve those problems in order to reduce the cost of electricity, to supply a stable power and to maintain the character of the public benefit, as a public corporation, including our effort to establish the countermeasure against an atmospheric pollution problem come up recently.
    This paper treats of the power situation, chiefly that in our company's service territory, and problems in thermal power facilities including fuel problems and countermeasures against an atmospheric pollution.

    Up to the present time, 58 kinds, or 331 of the artificial Satellites have been launched in U. S. A. and in U. S. S. R., of which two thirds are in the former and the other in the latter country. Centering around these countries, the rapid progress in the space development researches is being made world-wide, France, England and Japan are planning to launch their first artificial Satellites in the near future.
    The author describes various kinds of power sources for rocket propulsion, status of chemical propellants, electric propulsion as non-chemical propulsive power, and nonpropulsive power for use in communication and recording; and then discusses their future possibilities.

    Demand for naphtha has been rapidly increased throughout the world due to its cheaper cost as feed stocks as well as its ample availability. A survey of demand and supply situation of naphtha on the world-wide basis led to an assumption that demand for naphtha would be within 10% of total demand for petroleum products around 1970 and fully met by available supply. The above assumption is based on the following reasons: i. e.(1) demand for heavy crude oil is highter than that for light crude oil (2) almost all newly developed oil fields produce light crude oil which provides supply potentiality of naphtha. Therefore, amply supply of naphtha would be in itself feasible. However, it apparently looks difficult now because of crude throuput being under control.
    So far as this throuput contol maintains, it is necessary to secure supply by way of resaling among distributors, conversion of a part of fuel oil import to crude oil throuput or approval of throuput increase destined for naphtha output.
