Ferritin was crystallized from liver of normal rats and liver and tumor tissue of tumor-bearing rats and dogs.
The isoelectric focusing analysis of normal rat and dog liver ferritin showed many peaks. (Rat: pH5.41, 5.49, 5.55, 5.36, 5.43, 5.52, and 5.60, Dog: pH5.22, 5.29, 5.37, 5.45, and 5.57).
The isoelectric focusing pattern of apoferritin was the same as that of ferritin. The isoelectric points of ferritin obtained from tumor-bearing rats shifted to lower pH region (pH4.97-5.35) that those of normal rat ferritin (pH5.36-5.60).
The Fe/N ratio of tumor-bearing rat ferritin was strikingly lower than that of normal.
The precipitin test in gel revealed no serological difference between normal rat liver ferritin and or tumor ferritin from tumor-bearing rats.
