Glycopeptides were isolated from tryptic digests of eleven mammalian species stomachs, including human, rabbit, horse, cow, pig, goat, sheep, dog, cat, guinea pig and rat.
The results have been dsicussed and summarized as follows.
1. The glycopeptides content was higher in the mucosa than in the muscularis-serosa.
2. The sialic acid- and sulfate-rich glycopeptide, which migrated toward the anode faster and stained with both alcian blue and PAS, was absent or sparingly present in the mucosa of the human, rabbit, horse and first to third stomachs of the cow, goat and sheep, whereas in the mucosa of the pig, dog, cat, guinea pig, rat and the fourth stomach of the cow, goat and sheep they were found in noticeable extents.
