    The SO2 emission control of coal burnt gas in the U.S.A.is des-cribed with introducing the New Stationary Sources Performance Standard, with summari-zing the current SO2 removal processes, and with marking another particular movements.All the new coal burning boilers larger than 250 MMBtu of hourly heat input have to install some kinds of sulfur removal facilities. Limestone scrubbing of the flue gas is the present major technology, f ollowed by lime scrubbing and dual alkali methods in the utili-ties. Soda ash scrubbing is the major in another industries which are dominated by smaller size boilers.Japanese flue gas desulfurization technologies are also favorably evaluated in the States.

    Petroleum ether soluble part of pyridine extract of Akabira coal was fractionated by column chromatography of alumina into five fractions (Fr.A to E), and each fraction was analyzed by 13C-and 1H-NMR spectra. Furthermore, the average mol-ecular structure parameters for the Fr. B to E were calculated from the results of 1H-NMR and quantitative 13C-NMR spectra, elementary analysis and average molecular weight. The quantitative 13C-NMR spectra were measured by the combined use of the chrominum acetylacetonate relaxation reagent and the gated decoupling sequence.
    The absence of signal in the 24.4-29.4 and the 29.7-31.3 ppm ranges in the 13C-NMR spectrum of Fr. A is indicative of the absence of cyclic alkanes. Consequently, Fr. A con-sists of unbranched C22-37 alkanes and branched alkanes.
    From the structural parameters, it would be said that the constitutions of Fr. B to E consist of 2 to 4 aromatic rings and 0 to 2 naphthene rings, and percent substitution of alkyl groups on nonbridge aromatic ring carbons are 30-40%.

    Catalytic hydrogenation of coal was investigated for Morwell-B (Aus-tralian), Taiheiyo (Japanese) and Sumiyoshi coal, the following results being obtained: under experimental conditions where char was not formed, (1) Morwell-B and Sumiyoshi coal were decomposed by the paralel scheme in which a less reactive component, coal1, and the reminder, coal2, in coal were consumed each through their respective paths.Taiheiyo coal was decomposed, on the whole, by a single scheme; (2) according to macrokinetical analysis, a decomposition rate of coal1was half order with respect to hydrogen partial pre-ssure and showed an exponential increase with increasing catalyst concentration, that of coal2 being first order with respect to hydrogen partial pressure and approximatly independent on catalyst concentration; (3) the kinetical information indicates that coali and coal2 decompose catalyticaly through a reaction involving dissociated hydrogene and non-catalyticaly through a reaction involving molecular hydrogen, respectively.

    Model equations have been developed f or the simulation of 75 mmch single-stage pressurized fluidized bed coal gasifier with the aid of kinetic studies using a batch type apparatus and the calculated results of these model equations have been exam-ined and compared with the data obtained from the gasifier.
    As a result, it has been shown that they agreed with each other within the accuracy of 15%regarding the reaction rate of carbon, the quantity of product gas, and the heating value of product gas and within the accuracy of 20% regarding the composition of product gas and that, thus, this model was useful f or analyzing gasification test data.
    Further, a study of gasification data by this model made it clear that 20-40% of the povided steam reacted, the pyrolytic reaction was responsible f or the appearance of almost all methane and 25-40% of hydrogen in the generated gas and that, when the ratio of the steam to the supplied air became0.2-0.25 or below, the shif t reaction became active in the direction to generate more steam by consuming hydrogen.

    Removal tests of dilute nitric monoxide by mixed slurry liquid of FeSO4, edta and alkaline earth compound.It was found that among alkaline earth compo-unds, MgSO3 has the best durable effect of NOremoval.The durable effect is affected by the preparation methodof the absorbent: it is increased remarkedly when MgSO3 is hydrated sufficiently.
    Another experiment was conducted on the absorption rate of NO into mixed slurry liquid of Fe (II)-edta--MgSO3 System. The results were analyzed on the basis of the theory of gas absorption accompanied by an irreversible reaction.The reactionorder is first with respect to NO, and is first with respect to Fe (II)-edta chelate when the absorbent is prepared in the concentrationrange of FeSO4=0.001-0.12 mol/l, edta=0.001-0.04 mol/l and MgS03=0.86-2.15 wt%. The reaction rate constant was obtained andis expressed as follows: k1, 1=7.49X104exp (4867/RT) (l/g-mol ?sec)
    The effect of coexisting gas of SO2, O2 and CO2 on the rateconstant is negligible.

    Under present circumstances on the urgent relation of demand and supply of petroleum, it is significant that other form of the use offuel for the combustion installations such as furnaces and boilersis disscused for the purpose of energy saving, countermeasures of air pollution and so on
    We have noticed the mixing firingsystem with heavy fuel oil “C grade” and liquefied butane whic is expected to improve atmization characteristics and to decrease th power for transportation of fuel.
    The viscosity of mixed fuel ha been investigated to take the basic data with respect to the mixing firing burner.
    The followings have been obtained.
    (1) Suitable heating for heavy fuel oil “C grade” and intense agitation are effective for the mixing process.
    (2) At the mixing ratio of 3, (the ratio of the weight of heavy fuel oil “C grade” to the weight of liquefied butane) dynamic viscosity of about 20 [cst] which is required for good atmization have been obtained under room temperature.
    (3) By the measurement using capillary tube, following experimental equation of f he relation between dynamic viscosity and temperature has been obtained within the accuracy of ±30%.
