This paper describes a prototype courseware development project using Windows-based hypermedia tools. A review on the state-of-the-art technologies in multimedia is first shown, including those concerning compression techniques, storage devices, A-D converters/de-converters for video and audio, and related authoring tools. Experimental results and evaluations are then shown, which are based on a system consisting of basic hardware components, and Video for Windows and ToolBook as the major software tools.
