Ultrastructures of the choroid epithelium of the rats were examined by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy after intraventricular injection of pilocarpine and puromycin. In the rats to which isotonic saline solution was injected, peculiar changes were not observed as composed with the rats without drug treatments. Pilocarpine injection produced structural changes suggestive of hyperfunction of the choroid cells. Their nuclei were oval in shape and the cytoplasmic organelles were extensively well-developed. Moreover, these cells possessed polypoidal microvilli with remakably expanded tips. On the other hand, puromycin injection caused structural changes suggesting degeneration or hypofunction of the choroid cells. Their nuclei showed irregular contour and the organelles were also depressed. The microvilli tended to have slender finger-like profile. In conclusion, the polypoid border which has been know as a characteristic of the choroid epithelium is not artifact in preparations but may be probably concerned with hyperfunction of this tissue.

Placental alkaline phosphatase was found to be heterogeneous in respect of its gel electrophoretic migration and molecular weight. It hampered the purification of this enzyme. The present authors devised the isolation procedure to obtain this enzyme in a sufficiently pure state and in large quantity. The process included the removal of protein impurities with Japanese acid clay and carboxymethyl cellulose, and affinity chromatography on L-phenylalaninecoupled Sepharose 4 B and then on concanavalin A-labeled Sepharose 4 B.The carbohydrate content of purified enzyme preparation was as low as 6 per cent, of which major components were glucosamine and mannose. Oligosaccharide chains of this enzyme were responsible for the interaction with concanavalin A, even after exoglycosidase digestion. This enzyme possessed a-helical conformation, as documented by optical rotatory dispersion and circular dichroism measurement. This ordered conformation persisted in an alkaline solution, though it was destroyed with a simultaneous loss of activity in an acidic solution.

Vacuoles containing cross-banding fibers, similar to extracellular collagen, are observed in f ibroblasts in the adventitia of the rabbit postnatal umbilical veins. Our electron micrographs indicate that these fibers are actively synthesizing collagen within the cells and undergo lysosomal degradation in the Golgi-derived vacuoles. The findings do not suggest that they are phagocytosed collagen.

We have clinically studied tumor scanning using 67 Ga citrate, 169 Yb citrate, 57 Co-Bleomycin (BLM) and 203 HgCl
2.There was no difference in the positive rate among them but each nuclide has its own peculiar charactor in the distribution in tissues. So we have to give attention to the charactor in the selection of nuclides.

The recognition of signal was varied by the chart form and in proportion as signal and S/B ratio increase, the subject image become more clear. The subject image less than some size could not recognized even in proportion as signal and S/B ratio increase.

An autopsy case with Coxsackie B
4 viral myocarditis associated with interstitial nephritis and hepatitis is presented. Electrocardiograms demonstrated significant ST elevation, complete A-V block (causing syncopal attacks), and subsequent deep QS pattern, which were simulated acute myocardial infarction. Autopsy findings revealed extensive myocardial destruction including the conduction system with inflammatory mononuclear cell infiltration. In addition to cardiac damage, persistent renal failure and high transaminase level suggested renal and hapatic involvements by viral infection, which were comf firmed at postmortem examination.

The present paper reported a patient with Devic's disease, who had an attack at 59/12 years of age and was treated with corticosteroid, resulting in a complete cure. Immunological examinations revealed no evidence that this case was related to measles or rubella. Three years has already passed without recurrence since the settlement of his illness.

Tumor scintigram with 201 Tl was more clear in 2-3 hours after injection because of the reduction of background. As 201 Tl was originally developed for myocardial perfusion study, heart image was naturally delieneated during tumor scan. The distination between tumor image and heart image was relatively easy. However, we should pay attention in the detection of tumor located near or behind heart.Scintigram with 201 Tl could be obtained from immediately after injection and then was not necessary for having the intervall of serveral days such as 67 Ga citrate and so on.201 Tl is low-energy emitter with photopeak at 135 KeV, 167 KeV and 68-83 KeV, and its half life is 73 hours, which is profitable to exposure dos is.We think that 201 Tl is useful agent to tumor scintigram.
