    This paper discusses the rolling error of a gyro-compass having a liquid ballistic as a north seeking device.The purpose of this paper is to present a formula of rolling error which takes into consideration both of torque applied about the horizontal axis of the gyro, caused by the force directly applied to the tube by viscosity of the flowing liquid, and influence of movement of the gyro supporting device and other elements as a physical pendulum whose fulcrum is at the gimbal ring centre. In this paper, the formula is theoretically derived from the equation of motion of gimballed system as a physical pendulum, and also from the equation of motion of the liquid.
    The formula obtained is more suitable for practical calculation than previous formula, especially for short period rollings common in small fishing ships when high viscosity oil is used.

    基礎式と実験とからわかったチップフォーマとして要求される条件は, できるかぎり切削塑性域の材料の流れ, 応力等を利用し, かっ切りくず温度が高く降伏応力が小さい間にフォーミングを完了させることと, フォームされた切りくずの端が工具横にげ面あるいは被削材に当らないうよにすることである.そのためにはノーズ半径を大きくして切りくず流れ方向を変えたり, フォーマの背後に自由空間を設ける (C型フォーマ) ことなどが考えられる.
    なお, 今後の課題としては, さらに効果的で送りの小さな軽切削でも十分に使用できるフォーマを考えていきたい.

    Vibration drill is an apparatus which wages drilling by a vibrant tool. The tool is disposed to be a part of the mass which turns a vibrator and the main part of the mass is provided with a rotor which is able to do a torsional vibration of sinusoidal type by the action of a stator of special windings when it is supplied with a constant alternating current. The restitutive moment of this torsional vibration system of the drill is given by four piano rods of the same length. The paper treats the theoretical analyses of the motion of the vibrant tool in its working state, and moreover confirms the reasonableness of these analyses by comparing with the experimental results. Both of static and dynamic characteristics of the drill are pursued to see that it has sufficient functions and adequate performances as a dynamic drill. Assuming that the material of the work during the operation of the vibrant tool may turn uniformly a certain yield state of pressure, the drilling mechanism of the drill is studied by an analytical method to obtain a good solution for clarifying the experimental facts of the vibration drilling.

    The effects of electrolyte layer thickness and swelling of electrolyte at the edges of the workpieces on the shape of the electrolytic superfinished surface was studied theoretically and experimentally. The perforated resinoid bonded wheel was taken to be a homogeneous electrolytic layer. To calculate the electric field intensity at any point on the superfinished surface in cases when there is no swelling of the electrolyte, conformal mapping is employed; and in cases when the electrolyte dose swell resistant paper method is employed. Hence the shape of finished surface was estimated on the assumption that the quantity of electrolysing at any point on the finished surface is proportional to the intensity of electric field at the same point. Eventually cases when both cutting and electrolysing effects were present were considered.
    The results obtaind are as follows :
    1) The degree of edge rounding was found to be approximately proportional to the thickness of the electrolyte layer in cases when there is no swelling of the electrolyte.
    2) The degree of edge rounding increases by an amount equal to the amount of electrolysing on the sides in cases when there is swelling of the electrolyte.
    3) The shape of the electrolytic superfinishid surface can be obtained by superimposing the electrolysing and cutting effects.

    This paper treats the conveying velocity of a particle on a vibratory conveyor. The velocity of the particle is not uniform throughout one period of vibration due to the intermittent sticking and slipping motions. The mean velocity v of the particle can be calculated analytically, and the conveying velocity factor V can also be calculated.
    V is defined by
    V=2πωvg cos θ
    in which
    μ : coefficient of friction,
    θ : inclination of the conveying surface,
    ω : circular frequency of vibration of the surface,
    g : gravitational acceleration.
    It is the function of three dimensionless quantities Qa, Qb and Θ, which are determined by the conveying condition and were discussed already in the previous report. The relation between the conveying velocity and conveying condition is shown by equi-V-curve on Qa-Qb plane (Θ : parameter). In this diagram, the coordinate (Qa, Qb), giving the maximum value of V, lies on the critical line drawn for the jumping motion. Referring to these analytical results, the optimum conveying condition is obtained.
    It has been confirmed that the above theoretical results agree well with experimental studies.

    This paper gives the datum for the design of sintered metal gears, which is based on experimental results.
    By comparing the notch characteristics of mean density test pieces with those of high density, it is shown that the distortion of material under machined surface has an influence upon the strength of sintered metal. Moreover, the property of the metal is explained by using the mechanism of bending fatigue fracture for specimens with different kinds of notches.
    The results obtained are summarised as follows :
    (1) The notch factor of sintered metal material has a low value and the size effect is very high.
    (2) The distortion of material under machined surface has a great influence upon the strength of sintered metal.
    (3) Compressive fatigue strength is much more than tensile fatigue strength.

    We could take the photographs of the bursting state of the vitrified wheels by the stroboscope and the high speed camera, thus the cause of wheel fracture has been investigated by these photographs.
    The following results are obtained :
    (1) In a rotating wheel, the initial crack takes place at a point on surface of the arbor hole by the circumferential tensile stress and it spreads in the direction of rotation. The wheel, then, is divided in several blocks by succeeding cracks.
    (2) The initial crack is caused by the tensile stress, but succeeding cracks are caused by the bending moment as a result of centrifugal force on potential segments.
    (3) As the ratio of wheel diameter versus hole diameter is larger, the number of divided block increases.
    (4) The fluctuation of the critical break speed is within 23% for the wheels of the same grade and lot.

    A pneumatic micrometer system with both a hybrid pressure cascade connection and a linear feedback was previously proposed, and its experimental performance was reported by the present author. This paper is concerned with static transfer characteristics of the pneumatic circuit with the hybrid pressure cascade connection, the forward circuit of the system of which acts as the non-linear part of the static transfer characteristics of the system. The static characteristic expression of the circuit is shown as a function of the initial operating pressure of the input stage P01, coupling transducer gain Kg and compliances between the measuring nozzles and their counter-faces, and the effect of these factors on the transfer characteristics or the linear ranges is discussed with a concrete circuit. The results obtained are summarized as follows, 1) the smaller Kg is selected and the lower P01 is selected, the linear range on the characteristic curve displaces toward the high pressure side, 2) the larger the compliance between the measuring nozzle and its counter face in the output circuit is, the linear range displaces toward the low pressure side, 3) the effect of the measuring force in the input stage upon the transfer characteristic curve is negligible small, 4) the larger the gain Kg is selected, the less the variation of the measuring force over the output pressure range becomes.

    以上, 超音波振動研削における振動方向と仕上面あらさの関係を調べた結果を要約すると次のようである.
    1) 左右方向および同一方向振動研削における砥粒切込み深さを砥粒-被削材間の接触投影受圧面積の観点より理論的に求めた.その結果, 速度比が大きくなるような運動条件を選べば砥粒切込み深さが増大することを明らかにした.
    2) 超音波振動研削の仕上面あらさは振動方向と速度比に大きく影響される.すなわち, 左右方向振動研削についていえば最大傾斜角が大きくなるほど, また同一方向振動研削の場合には同一点研削回数が増加するにしたがって仕上面あらさは悪くなる.一方, 垂直方向振動研削においては被削材振幅および砥石周速度が増大するにともなって仕上面あらさは悪くなる傾向にある.
    3) 仕上面のSchumacherおよびAbbott解析を行なった結果, 左右方向振動研削では同一方向および垂直方向振動研削による場合よりもなめらかな断面曲線を有する仕上面がえられる.
