    Automatic computing gradetester of grinding wheels which based on ultrasonic pulse method is designed.
    The characteristics of the new designed gradetester are as follows :
    1. As it is a nondestructive method, it does not damage the surface of the measured grinding wheel.
    2. Comparing with the mechanical methods, it has not the fault such as tool wear and has good accuracy.
    3. It is operation is easy, because measured value is displayed in digital value and hence reading error is avoided.
    4. It is also able to measure the homogeneity of the grinding wheel.
    5. It can be applied to diamond wheels, fine grain size grinding wheels and so on.

    In the previous report, the number of contact spots and the real contact area, the basic quantities of the state about the contact phenomena, are determined using the p.d.f. obtained in the 1st report.
    In this paper, the method determing the quantities of the dynamic state of the contact with relative motion is developed from the method determining the quantities of the static state of the contact according to the structure of author's theory.
    As for the quantities of the dynamic state determined by the developed method, the repeated number of the contact, the mean length between the contactspots and so on are defined, and then their general expressions are obtained in this paper.
    And moreover their detailed expressions are gained using the re type common distribution as same as in the 2nd report.
    The geometrical parameters, the factors about the 3 dimensional characteristics of the solid surface, are determined on the cupper surface finished by the dry lapping using carborandom with 320 grain size, and then the quantities of the dynamic state at the early period of the sliding motion without wear are estimated making use of the gained parameters.

    In this paper, the spectral analysis of the transcribed surface profile of a wheel in relation to the progress of grinding process is studied. Based on this analysis, the quality of grindability between the wheel and the workpiece, and the infuluence of work speed in relation to the tool life of a wheel are reported.
    The main results obtained are as follows. 1) The transcribed surface profile obtained from a grinding wheel just after the dressing has a very strong correlation, and the highest value of the spectral density is found at the wave length just corresponding to the dressing feed.
    For convenience, this periodic element is named Sp (λ). As the grinding process proceeds, the correlation becomes weak and the Sp (λ) decreases. Especially this tendency is remarkable when the combination of the wheel and the work material is not suitable. 2) As far as this experiment is performed, the Sp (λ) decreases slowly and the value of the Sp (λ) on the point of the tool life of a wheel becomes small according as the work speed increases.

    In this paper the analysis of friction vibration in the slide way which has been developed by the authors is applied to the practical slide way of machine tool and the discussion about the availability of the theory, the fundamental policy for the design of machine tool slide way from the view point for friction vibration and the method to suppress the onset of friction vibration are described. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The avilability of the basic theory for the friction vibrations is verified from the experiment with the machine tool slide way. 2. It is possible to predict the critical condition of friction vibration at the design stage of slide way. 3. It is important to make the each effect of the sliding pads on the critical condition equal and to decrease it. 4. The oil groove on the slide way plays a important role for the critical conndition of friction vibration and it is recommended to make the effective width of the sliding pad as large as possible.

    A numerical method for analyzing the temperature distribution in two dimensional metal machining is proposed. Although the computation processes are essentially the same as the one proposed by J. F. W. Bishop, the method takes into consideration the effects of temperature and strain rate upon the flow stress of material cut, which are derived from the independent material test reported in the previous paper.
    The temperature distributions obtained analytically are found to be in good agreement with the distributions measured by an infrared radiometric microscope.
    The shear stress on the shear plane and the friction force on the tool-face, which are determined through the process of temperature computation, are verified to be in good agreement with the values calculated from the cutting force.

    In honing works, the loading of abrasive sticks is thought to play an important role in its finishing process, for example, the creation of smooth surfaces and high dimensional accuracies is generally said to be accompanied with the development of the loading. But there has been no appropriate method for mesuring this loading, so its growing process and influences still have not been fully investigated.
    In this study, a method of magnetical in-process measurement of this loading is developed with the object of the application to the experimental analysis of honing mechanisms, and its characteristics and applicability are investigated in the cast-iron honing experiment. The main results are as follows;
    (1) For the measurement of the loading in such cases as honing works in which the abrasive tools move slowly, the utilization of the magnetic resistance change accompanied with the loading is available, differing from the case of the grinding loading reported in the previous paper.
    (2) In the application experiment, the developed apparatus has well operated and some aspect of the loading in the cast-iron honing, for example, its growing process and its relations with the metal removals and the surface finish, has been definitely shown.
