    The influence of the radial error motion of spindle on the roundness profile of workpieces is studied experimentally with three kinds of lathes in terms of power spectra and cross-spectra. The radial error motion is measured by detecting the fluctuation in gap with spherical master, and the vibration is measured at the same time. The roundness profiles of workpieces cut by a diamond tool are measured at about 30 sections at the interval corresponding with feed of cutting tool. The following results are obtained. (1) The undulation components of the radial error motion and the roundness profile are mainly caused by the vibrations due to an electric motor and driving system, the form error of bearing and so on. (2) The amplitude ratio of the undulation components of the roundness profile to the radial error motion is about 90%. (3) The contribution of the radial error motion to the roundness profile is about 70% in the precision lathe with the hydrostatic bearing, about 55% in the lathe with the spindle supported at three points, and about 35% in the lathe with the spindle supported at two points. It is clearly recognized that the noisy vibration excited in the bed and the other structural parts of lathe influences on the roundness profile in the low accurate lathe.

    In this paper, several measures are discussed experimentally in order to withstand the influence of cutting fluid, chips, temperature change and materials which will surely cause the reduction of measuring accuracy in in-process measurement. Itis pointed out through various experiments that these effects could be reduced by the use of air jet methods, temperature compensation in a bridge circuit, output regulated laser unit and diffusion light from a laser spot. Consequently, an optical measuring method was found to be more promising than other methods, when the measures against various disturbances were taken adequately.

    A dynamic model of the cutting edge impact which involves a non-linear cutting stiffness is proposed in order to analyze the transient response of the cutting tool and to obtain the impact cutting force. The results of numerical analysis for the model proposed show a good agreement with the experimental results. Through the analysis, it isrevealed that the impact cutting force exerted to the tool face is mainly the force necessary to produce the chip, while the dynamic force due to the impact is almost negligible. The impact cutting force can be thus obtained approximately from the usual force record by a suitable elimination of the vibrating term, though it is also possible to be obtained from the analysis. The paper futher proposes a method to determine the distribution of the impact force upon the tool-face, and an example of the distribution is presented.

    In this report, the theoretical analysis of the formation of the uncut core in the cutoff operations of a bar work reported in the lst report is experimentally exmained under the various cutting conditions. It is clearly defined by the experiment that there are two different mechanisms in formation of the uncut core depending on which force, the resultant cutting force or the weight of thecutoff work, is prevailed in a given cutting condition. The edge angle of the tool has a great influence on the uncut core. If a usual cutting tool without the edge angle is used, a considerable uncut core is always left on the work. The tool with a appropriate edge angle which is somewhat larger than the optimum edge angle predicted by the theoretical analysis can minimize the uncut core. From the point of view of uncut core, it is recommended to use a smaller depth of cut and a higher revolution of the work in the practical cutoff operations.

    The adaptive control system in which the machine operator plays the role of the sensor as well as the controller is proposed. This concept, which can be called as the Manual Adaptive Control, has been successfully applied to turning operations. The tool flank wear is measured at each tool change or at each workpiece change by the operator and these values are entered into the micro-computer. The program is designed to predict the parameters in the tool wear equation more and more accurately as each value is entered. After several points are entered, the iterative procedure converges, and the cost optimum machining condition is obtained.

    平面形磁性接点ばねについて, 静負荷特性を調べ, さらに励磁状態における負荷特性を検討した結果, 次のことが明らかになった.
    (1) 平面形磁性接点ばねは3自由度モデルとして扱ってよい.可動片内の等スティフネス線図は楕円となり, 負荷中心でスティフネスは最大となる.
    (2) 固定接点の中心線上に負荷力が作用する場合には, 静負荷特性では, 偏心量の増加に伴って初期閉成負荷力は減少し, 最終閉成負荷力は増加する.また, 回転に対する剛性が大きいほど安定な接触状態が得られる.
    (3) 実際の駆動では励磁状態の負荷特性で考えていく必要があり, 特に磁束の集中によるモーメントの影響, すなわち負荷点の変動が大きくなる.
    (4) 回転に対する剛性が小さいx方向では, 偏心量が大きくなると, 可動片は支持板と固定接点とにブリッジを形成し, 最終閉成に要する負荷力は非常に大きくなる.
    (5) 起磁力が初期閉成起磁力の1.2倍という条件では, 安定な接触状態が得られる許容偏心量はε≦0.12である.
    実際にはばね形状と寸法に若干の手直しを加え, 負荷中心をxc/d=0.83/8.9=0.093とすることにより, 許容偏心量はε<0.24まで向上させた.

    The present paper describes the experimental relationship between the roundness of the center hole and the roundness of the ground surface of the workpiece supported with dead centers in cylindrical plunge grinding. The center holes are machined with center drills. The measured profiles of the hole and the ground surface are analyzed by Fourier analysis and the components of the hole profile are compared with those of the ground surface profile for each number of lobes on the circumference by using linear regression analysis. The obtained main results are as follows : (1) The two-lobed component and the lower odd-numberlobed components are dominant on the profile of the holes. (2) The two-lobed component is dominant on most of the ground surfaces. (3) The threelobed component of the profile of the hole is more easily transmitted to the profile of the ground surface than the other components. Within the limit of this experiment, the amplitude ratio of the transmission is about six percents for the hole diameter of 5 to 10 mm. (4) Although the two-lobed components are dominant on the profiles of both the hole and the ground surface, the relationship between them does not show a good correlation.

    By measuring the bearing frictional moment and temperature by means of jet oiling and circulating oiling from the back and the front of tapered roller bearing # 32211 rotated at speeds up to 15 000 rpm (dn 825 000), the effects of these lubrication methods have been compared and reviewed. Consequently, following conclusions are drawn. (1) Bearing temperature rise is affected by the bearingpenetrating rate and heat exchange efficiency of lubricating oil, and circulating oiling is higher in this efficiency than jet oiling. (2) The bearingfrictional moment is affected by the viscosity of lubricating oil at a bearing temperature, the amount of lubricating oil within a bearing, and the fan action of the bearing, and the frictional moment increases proportionately with rotational speeds when lubrication is performed against the fan action of the bearing. (3) Compared with jet oiling, circulating oiling in which lubricating oil is supplied from the back of a bearing, and is discharged from the front of the bearing is somewhat large in frictional moment, but is small in bearing temperature rise. Therefore circulating oiling will be able to be put to practical use as a lubrication method for high speed tapered roller bearings.

    This report introduces results of experimental relief-grinding of worm hob. The objective of this experiment is to prove that the numerical method discussed in the previous report is effective in determining the axial profile of relieving wheel. The worm hob, corresponding to a ground worm of module 4. 13, is investigated. By means of the numerical method, the profile of relieving wheel is determined. The relieving wheel is dressed by using an experimental NC-dresser and the profileerror of the dressed wheel is shown to be less than 4 μm. The worm hob is relief-ground on an experimental relief-grinder. The profile of the relieved hob is checked and the maximum error is shown to be less than 5 μm. Lines of contact of the worm gear set, the worm wheel of which is cut by the hob, are inspected. The experimental result agrees with the calculated. The profile error of hob caused by the mis-setting of relieving wheel is discussed and the discussion proceeds to the amount of the mis-setting allowable in the reliefgrinder to which the numerical method is applied.
