The problem of theatrical space, that is, auditorium and stage-space, has been examined mostly from an architectural or scenic art's viewpoint. But, the theatrical performance is always given in the presence of an assembly of spectators, and its success depends often upon the tense relation between the spheres of spectators and actors. So, with due regard to them, we have to study it as a problem of space-time art. Prof. D. Frey made a great contribution to this field in his "Zuschauer und Buhne." As the theatrical art has its own transitory, visual beauty, and one might say that sometimes an author realizes his own peculiar space beauty on the stage (for instance, Chekhov), we propose to the theatrical students that they exert all possible efforts to record their individual observations of the stage performances in cetail. In Japan, efforts have been done to keep the "kata" (style of acting) of representative Kabuki plays in written form, which are the most precious documents to the research worker in the theatrical field.
