The Russian Adventure-Romance play in the first half of 18th century was played by amateur companies. The play, widely popularized, was dramatized of popular romances which were brought from West Europe. In the dramatization of romances, the authers take the style of their only known theatre, the school drama. Although taking the style of a school drama, secular characters appear on the stage. Each secular character has a clear and independent personality. So, each role has a very close relation to his lines. This close relation between a role and lines is not observed in the school drama. The relation is emphasized by a motif "disguise". In short, the Adventure-Romance play has brought about a new theatrical experience. In those days most of the Russian spectators had known only a folk theater. But the Adventure-Romance play gained popularity. In the process of popularization, many other factors were combined in the play : secular words, clowns, onomatopoeia and "plachi". These are the evidence that the play was gradually "Russianized".
