    切削油剤の潤滑効果と, 冷却効果が工具の欠損および摩耗などに及ぼす影響について調べた。その結果, 次のようなことがわかった。
    1) 切削油剤として水を噴霧供給した場合には, 故意に刃先を鋭くしたS種 (JISP種相当) 超硬チップの切れ刃に欠損を生ぜしめるが, スピンドル油を噴霧供給した場合には, その定常的な冷却効果はかなり大きいにもかかわらず, 欠損が起こらず, 切削油剤としての効果が認められる。これは噴霧供給法における両油剤の急冷効果の相違によるものであると考えられる。
    2) 既知の物性定数を用いて計算したG種 (JISK種相当) 超硬バイトの熱衝撃係数は, S種 (JISP種相当) 超硬バイトよりも大きく, 高速度鋼と同程度であり, 油剤の使用に対して適している。
    3) いおうを豊富に含む油剤は, 比較的高速切削においては, 一般に工具のクレータ摩耗を大きくする。しかし同一成分の油剤を噴霧供給して冷却効果を持たせた場合は, この心配は少ない。
    4) 急冷によの, 焼入硬化を起こしやすい被削材では, 冷却能力の大きい油剤の使用は, 削りくずを硬化させ, 工具損耗を助長する場合がある。

    Toys on the market which go on foot are usually nothing but a miniature copy of machines. And so they have little or no appeal to those who have gone far beyond the mechanical princiles involved in those toys.
    The toys the author presents here should challenge your curiocity because of their design. The reason is that kinematic chains to which the toys belong have more than two degrees of freedom of motion which does not prevent them from moving as if they have only one.
    This phenomenon seems to inform us that a machine can be free from the condition known as “Zwanglauf”.

    The design principle of a new. friability testing apparatus for abrasive grains is proposed. The apparatus is composed of a drop hammer which gives impulsive load of a few tenth of one millisecond to the single abrasive grain (specimen), and of a piezoelectric measuring system for dynamic fracturing load at which the grain is broken down under impulsive load. Using the apparatus, the friability of some grains such as of diamond and aluminium oxide are measured quantitatively through the dynamic fracturing load. As the results, it is shown that, although the dynamic fracturing load of each grain among a group of specimens scatters widely, the averaged value on the whole increases proportionally to the mean diameter of grains tested and is considerably higher than the static one which is measured under static compressive load.
    The some effects of thermal shock on dynamic fracture of abrasive grains are also described in the paper.

    Cutting tests were done using with an individual grain for stainless steel conical rod to clarify the grinding performance of a sintered abrasive grain. In this experiment, the maximum depth of cut to endure and the two components of grinding force can be measured, also the variations of cutting edges of grain are able to estimate from the measured profiles of cut surface. The grain depth of cut is proportional to the value of cutting length in the beginning of cutting, however, it becomes nearly constant when the cutting distance reaches over the some values. The tendency of the constant depth of cut can be explained from the facts that the cutting edges of abrasive grain are tend to fracture in micro scale, which was found from the measured profiles of cut surfaces. Mico-fractured cutting edges of a sintered grain have good grinding charactristics for stainless steel during long cutting time, producing the continuous chips. Thus, the sintered abrasive grains are suitable for heavy grinding of stainless steel because of self-sharpening action of cutting edges and of the relatively large depth of cut for use.

    This paper presents a direction of chip flow for various form of tool geometry and various cutting conditions.
    In the case of single point cutting tool, the investigations of the chip flow were presented by Okushima and Colwell. Their papers, however, didn't clear up the effect of the side cutting edge angle.
    Then, in this paper, the research of the effect of the side cutting edge angle has been done, and the direction of chip flow was theoretically and experimentally investigated. The nomograph of the direction of chip flow has been finally settled based on the theoretical equations.
