The influence of twelve different iron salts representing the ferrous and ferric compounds of organic and inorganic nature viz., ferrous sulfate, ferrous chloride, ferrous carbonate, ferrous iodide, ferric sulfate, ferric chloride, ferric nitrate, ferrous lactate, ferric oxalate, ferric malate, ferric tartarate and ferric citrate, on the growth of Genge nodule bacteria was investigated. These iron salts were applied in different concentration covering the range of 0.00005-0.05per cent, and obtained the following results : 1) The marked stimulation was obtained by forric malate and the chlorides which were followed by ferric sulfate, ferric citrate, ferric oxalate and ferric tartarate while the others were indifferent. 2) Ferric malate was least harmful and followed by ferrous carbonate while ferrous iodide and ferric nitrate depressed the growth. As a whole the influence of these iron salts on the growth of the nodule bacteria may be considered to be rather small so far as our results indicate.

An account was given of the behaviour of a number of sugers and organic acids in presence of resting Rh. trifolii and Rh. melioti as activating sources and of methylene blue as the hydrogen acceptor. Rh. trifolii showed powerful property being greatest with fructose and Rh. meliloti with fructose, gluose and arabinose. Citric acid, malic acid and lactc acid were extremely good donators compared with succinic acid as a standard. Inhibition of oxydation by the cyanic acid showed that Rh. trifolii and Rh. meliloti were more resistant in M/1000 KCN than Rh. lupini and Rh. japonicum, whilst the latter was less feeble in M/100 KCN than the others, thus confirming the view that at least different oxygenase were present in the cell of module bacteria. Tests were made for enzymes reffered to as performing role of more or less importance in respiratory mechanism of the organism. In culture media where cells appeared to multiply vigorously, positive catalase test was more distinctly obtained with bacteria from clover, alfalfa and"genge" than those from lupine and soybean. Evidence on peroxydase production of Rh. japonicum, when considered together with its catalse production, revealed an important role of peroxydase in respiratory mechanism of soybean bacteria. It was shown taht the activity of indophenoloxydase, for which a color test was carried out with Nadi-reagent, was great with the fast grower.

The authers intended to elucidate the growth phase of mint plant in a view of its nutritional physiology. The results obtained are discussed, in the present paper, under the following headings : - (1)Length and weight of plant at different stages of its growth. (2) Absorption of nutrients at different stages of growth. (3) Production of essential oil at different stages of growth. (4) Chemical composition of essential oil obtained at different stages of growth. (5) Physical properties of essential oil obtained at different stages of growth. (6) Percentage contents of menthol crystal, crystalizable by the freezing process, in essential oil at different stages of growth.
