Evaluation of the accuracy provided by the tomographic system was carried out using the Entrophy analysis. An exploration of the relative reliability was performed upon the selection of three variables, namely, the exposure angle, the speed and the layer thickness. The data gathered enables us to indicate that the accuracy of the tomographic system as a whole, could be quantitatively evaluated with the chosen analytical system.

A comparison of the image quality of a high resolution scan (HR scan) and a standard scan (ST scan) of a 7020 CT scanner was made by means of physical evaluation and psychological visual evaluation. According to the physical evaluation, it has been found that the HR scan was superior in modulation transfer function, but inferior in noise and contrast scale to the CT scan. Both the HR scan and the ST scan were satisfactory in uniformity and linearity. The ST scan was superior to the HR scan according to the psychological visual evaluation. This was probably due to the increase of noise in the HR scan. It may be concluded from the results of this comparison that the HR scan is suited to differentiate the fine structures in a high contrast area, while the ST scan is suited for a scan in a low contrast area.

Correlation between the content of scattered X-rays and the criterion to use of X-ray grid are investigated. X-ray grid has been used by radiologic technologists when the content of scattered X-rays is over than 70 percent by their experience. It is studied in this experiment of what does mean to be over than 70 percent of the content of scattered X-rays on radiographic image from the viewpoint with human ability to detect the signal. That is, in the case of that the entropy analysis is introduced into evaluation for the human ability to detect the signal and to transmit the information, it is demonstrated that the human ability to detect the noise-limited signals is remarkedly lowered when the content of scattered X-rays is over 70 percent.

Standard base lines in skull radiography are important technical factors for high quality reproduction of a radiogram. However, in current texbooks of radiology and radiography, at least 11 base lines have been described for skull radiography. The definition of these base lines has been by no means uniform or precise among the various authors. In our attempt for some standardization, two fundametal base lines, the ABL and the OMBL were chosen and upon a study of their histological development, the present status of their clinical use in various countries were analyzed. We also investigated about the reference point considered in those base lines. The difference in the angle taken for the ABL and the OMBL estimation has been described in the literature, as being 10 degree, but we found that this angle measured over the skin surface varied widely among individuals ranging from 9 to 16 degree. Thus, we concluded that accurate standardization of radiographic base lines are essential for an improvement of skull radiography. Our results indicated the need to recognize existing differences on reference points or lines taken on the skin surface or over the bone position.

Recently it has been found that the number of male cases requiring for retrograde urethrography (R.U.) is increasing in association with the rapidly extending life span in Japan. This report is directed to investigating the status quo of the various techniques used in R.U. followed by measuring the radiation dose on the physician and finaliy developing the new device to reduce unnecessary radiation dose. Manual injection of the radio-opaquee contrast medium has been employed by 92.5% out of 8,259 physicians in 67 institutions. They expose themselves as well as patients to the radation duringthe course of the examination. In most of these occasions the physician is not sufficiently protected from radiation leaving the possibility of his somatic damage. From these observations, the followings were studied : 1) Application of our newly developed protective barrier, exclusive for R.U., made of lead-impregnated acryl-resin plate (KYOW GLAS-XA). 2) Employment of the high speed screen made of rare earth metal. The results were encouraging in reducing the radiation exposure dose. In conclusion, the employment of the two methods described above is efficient in obviating unnecessary radiation exposure to the physician during R.U.

What are needed to accomplish reliable and effective application of X-ray are optimum performances of individual parts of which an X-ray generator is composed and best performances resulting from relative functions among them. Performances of various parts of a generator are well considered already in its design and confirmed by inspection. At the time of installation, a generator is adjusted in accordance with a power supply at the site so as to establish the satisfactory performances. For the right understanding of performances and right application of a generator, importance are to understand the structure designed in according to the specification requirements, to investigate the connection diagram indicating electric operations, actual measurement of electiric voltage and currents along each circuit to see the agreement with theoretical values, investigation of how well applicability to accessory equipment are established, and so on. They will also be helpful for maintenance and auto-diagnosis of a generator. This paper describes circuit analysis for a three phase "Delta-Star Delta" full wave rectification X-ray generator to obtain electric voltages, currents and terminal potentials in a generator, resulting from voltage and current waves, effective values, average values, fourier series and terminal potentials of an X-ray generator. In additon, it is described that, for a power supply, an electric current can be indicated with a circle-diagram by considering it as an equivalent sine wave. And also a comparison is made of capacities in single phase and three phase X-ray generators.

The cure of cancer by radiothrerapy has been improved by the availability of high-energy radiations. Efforts and results for further improvement of the cancer cure were reviewed : The high LET radiation, the radiosensitizer, and hyperthermia. And new approaches for the analyses of cancer growth and of cancer radiotherapy were introduced.
