In our first report, the trial products and its properities of "the Double-Electrode Ionization Chember" was introduced. This chamber enables measurement of "exposure dose" and "area exposure product" by attaching this chamber to the surface of the collimator. Due to the use of a 15μm thick aluminum layer for electrode material, it resulted in a completely lightopaque, incapable of using collimative light as a field indicator. After various examinations of materials for the electrode, we succeeded in developing two types of chambers ; one, a minute aluminum electrode (minimized electrode ionization chamber) ; the other, a transparent electrode consisting of Indium-Tin oxide on film (transparent electrode ionization chamber). We also developed an amplifier for these purposes. In this paper, an outline and properties (dose quality and quantity, dose rate, field-output relationship, aluminum-equivalent thickness and light transparency rate) are being reported. Performances of these chambers agree well with the IONEX chamber (0.3cm^3 type 2536) used as a reference. These chambers can be used to measure patient doses without hindering the light indication of a collimator.

We studied the asymmetry of screen-film systems for some combinations between screen and tube voltage using symmetric films with crossover factors near-zero and 0.26. Our results showed that gradient values might be changed, when different kinds of screens were used front and back. When we used the same-speed screens in the fronts and backs and increased the tube voltage, the gradient of the system became higher ; but when we used different speed screens in the frot and back, the gradient of the system became lower. And the total modulation transfer function (MTF) of the output side was decreased as increasing the tube voltage with the effect due to K-X-ray, but the gradient. On the density region, the total MTF of the output side was changed, when different kinds of screens were used front and back, but was not changed when the same kind of screens were used.

As radiological technologists, we play important roles in maintaining high-quality images in cineangiography and providing a variety of information for conducting efficient examinations and minimizing exposure doses to operators and patients in cardiac examinations. To perform these tasks rapidly and efficiently, we need to record numerous data concerning each examination accurately, such as the radiographic conditions and exposure. We evaluated the accuracy of radiographic information regarding image quality and area exposure product meter, and devised an automatic recording system for these data. Our experiments indicated that each system was accurately measurable for x-ray tube voltage, conditions of contrast media injected, and area exposure products. Connecting a personal computer to the x-ray apparatus, the injector, and area exposure product meter enabled us to record a variety of information automatically. This study indicates that we can easily and accurately record the radiographic conditions and exposure dose of patients. This system is also useful for regulating image quality and exposure dose.

The detailed images and diagnostic value of various abnormalities in chest radiographs obtained using AD and conventional systems were evaluated subjectively. Posteroanterior chest radiographs of 62 patients with various diseases were radiographed using both AD and conventional systems. Three board-certified radiologists independently reviewed the appearance of various radiographic patterns on the two examinations. In most cases, the detailed images of various patterns obtained with the AD system were superior to those obtained with the conventional system. However, inferior or not significantly different cases were found in a few patterns such as reticular and small nodular patterns. We conclude that the AD system may be superior for detecting detailed images and may provide improved diagnoses in chest radiography due to the significantly lower noise level.
