We tried a method to briefly measure GFR and RPF simultaneously with the production of renal RI angiogram and renogram using ^<99m>Tc-DTPA. For the GFR measurement, we instituted ROI on a bladder part after finishing renogram, and made computations by the half-hourly bladder excretion rate and coefficient Kl. For the RPF measurement, we found that the first phase of ^<99m>Tc-DTPA renogram curve was in proportion to renal blood flow and computed the RPF measurement from this maximum count, blood count and coefficient K2. Both the coefficients K1 and K2 were computed from ^<99m>Tc-DTPA clearance and ^<131>I-Hippuran clearance by urine collection. We compared GFR (68 cases) and RPF (33 cases) which compute by the method mentioned above with the creatinine clearce and PAH clearace. GFR : Correlation coefficient (0.926) Linear regression Y=0.785X+8.533 RPF : Correlation coefficient (0.802) Linear regression Y=0.869X+45.24 In this way, we got very good correlation. Judging from the foregoing observations, we concluded that the results obtained by this method were well reflected in the function and can be taken as a standard for knowing the renal function, and further, this not being influenced by the urination impediment etc. is a clinically useful method for quantitative renal function examination.

Because of their poor image quality, especially resolving power, digital subtraction angiographic (DSA) images obtained by intravenous injection of contrast medium are not available for scrupulous examinations except for some cases. In order to make more effective use of DSA, the authors applied, this time, DSA by intraarterial injection of contrast medium to many cases, and obtained better results in those cases with cerebnal, spinal arterial and peripheral vascular lesions of extremities compared with conventional serial angiography by catheter.

A new method for quantitative evaluation of radiologic image quality is proposed. In this method the smallest detectable contrast in radiographs is quantified from film density fluctuations by a mean of testing statistical hypothesis. This new measure called "contrast discrimination" expresses the radiographic image performance by a single number. By using this measure the imaging performance of radiographic recording systems was evaluated and, moreover, the total image performance in the nonstationary processes was evaluated.

The total evaluation theory of image quality by detectivity derived from spectral signal-to-noise ratio was applied to radiographic screen-film systems. Detectivity of radiographic image equals to root integration square of spectral signal-to-noise ratio. A 5.45 detectivity value of a radiographic bead image on TF-2+RP screen-film system a comparatively better estimation at granularity, where as, a value of 4.28 on Par+RP/R screen-film system which has comparatively better estimation at MTF. Detectivity value of radiographic edge image of a needle was 559.5 of root integration of NEQ (u) on the TF-2+RP, and 596.8 on the Par+RP/R screen-film system. As result of above it is considered that TF-2+RP adapts to the detection of radiographic bead image, and the Par+RP/R screen-film system to the detection of radiographic edge image of a needle. This result of ours agreed with David J. Goodenough's conclusions. A 4.61 detectivity of radiographic contact bead image on Lanex Regular+OG screen-film system was remarkably increased to 9.08 at radiographic bead image of magnification factor 2. Evidently the radiographic magnification technique is one of the best method to increase detectivity.

Neutron generators are widely used for the production of 14-15 MeV fast neutrons by a ^3H (d, n) ^4He reaction. The activity of tritium contained in a tritium target is about 3.7×10^<11> Bq (10 Ci). In the neutron generator laboratory of Nagasaki University School of medicine, we evaluated tritium concentration in air from that in water exposed to air for 17 hours in a container and thereby measured the air contamination from the tritium target of a neutron generator. The tritium concentration in air was 5.22×10^<-4> Bq/ml and 1.4×10^<-4> Bq/ml in the generator room and reserve room respectively when the air conditioner was operated, and it increased to 69.63×10^<-4> Bq/ml in the generator room when the air conditioner was put off.

The history of radiation therapy can be divided into three major ears according to the characteristics of the available radiation. In the past era, Low LET radiation of kilovolt source has been used. At present Low LET radiation of megavolt source is commonly used. For the new radiotherapy in the coming era, various types of high LET radiation are being explored. Taking such circumstance into consideration, history, principles and futher technical requirements of medical electron accelerator is discussed.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Imaging currently is an investigative modality but its rate of development and practical usefulness in medical imaging is proving extraordinarily great. These devices rely upon massive and rapid computer information processing to image magnetic properties of the subject. Biochemical interactions generate different dynamic properties, called T_1 and T_2 relaxation rates, in different tissues. By varying the signal excitation sequence, what is being imaged is sensitized to various combinations of such effects.
