In this paper, a new method of measurement concerning high energy electron beams using of a PLZT [(Pb, La) (Zr, Ti) O_3] shutter is presented. Characteristics of the PLZT shutter about measurement of 10 MeV and 15 MeV electron beams were contrasted with that of a PLZT shutter having non-sensitivity regarding ^<60>Co γ-rays. The PLZT shutter is capable of being a high energy electron beam dosimeter which is independent of atmospheric temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity and distribution of X or γ rays with a variable DC power supply and a photo densitometer.

The FEDIF ^[○!R] method in MR imaging has been examined : In particular, the use of low flip angles for enhancing the cervical spinal cord and breath-holding practice for the abdomen. The experimental parameters such as the flip angle and TR in the FEDIF ^[○!R] method were determined by measuring the MR intensity for white matter, grey matter and cerebrospinal fluid in human brain, and fat in temporal region. Based on these data, the flip angle clinically suitable for MR imaging of cervical spinal cord and abdomen were determined from the measurement of object contrast and S/N as well as a visual inspection. Due to the of smaller motion artifacts present in the FEDIF ^[○!R] method with 8°flip angle than the long SE method, the former is clinically more advantageous than the latter to obtain the enhancement of cerebrospinal fluid.

Detective quantum efficiency (DQE (u)) has provided a useful means for evaluating imaging systems. In this paper, we have simulated the effects of various image factors (modulation transfer function (MTF (u)), gamma and absorption efficiency) on DQE (u). Regarding the simulations, the ideal value of the evaluated imaging factors were substituted Rossmann's equation. This study revealed that DQE(u) at high frequencies is reduced by the lower MTF (u) and DQE (u) at low frequencies is reduced by the lower absorption efficiency and the structure mottle. Gamma also changes all over DQE (u). Although these results are similar to those of NEQ (u), there is a meaningful difference between DQE (u) and NEQ (u). Since DQE (u) represents detective quantum efficiency whereas NEQ (u) relates to image quality itself. Therefore, even if large DQE (u) exists, it dose not necessarily give a evaluation of good image quality evaluation.

Cassette Changer BCM-600 was installed in March 1987. Which was able to perform a maximum of six series of radiography. As the basis for the study, determination of the synchronization with the X-ray generator and vibration of the changer were carried out to evaluate to what degree this vibration had an affect on the sharpness of image quality of X-ray pictures. The result shows that this machine could obtain a good image quality without any detrioration of image sharpness if an interval of more than 2.0 sec were provided. This machine could provide a film field as large as 3-14″×17″ (35.6cm×129.5cm) and was capable of completing a maximum of six series of radiography. As a consequence this machine is available for angiography aimed at abdominal and pelvic blood vessel diseases.
