Angiography of fine blood vessels is performed using X-ray cinematography. The image contrast of blood vessels which are filled with contrast media depends on the X-ray conditions, especially the tube voltage. Depending on the direction between the blood vessels in the object and the lead strip of an anti-scatter grid, the image contrast of the blood vessels may change. The image contrast of the blood vessels parallel to the lead strip is higher than vertical. Because, the amount of scattered radiation reduced by blood vessels and the anti-scatter grid is changed by its direction. But the image contrast of blood vessels neither change in middle or X-ray tube side in the object for each direction.

Based on the preliminary results reported previously, we evaluated the clinical usefulness of quantitative analysis of maxillary densities on digitized X-ray images in 288 sites of 144 patients. These patients were selected from among 2500 who visited the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and who were examined for paranasal sinusitis. We accomplished the quantitative analysis using the new value M_1/O without visual evaluations. The results obtained by quantitative analysis will be helpful in the early diagnosis of mild paranasal inflammatory changes as a computer assisted diagnostic tool.

We evaluated the performance of a 1 million pixel CCD camera developed as an image intensifier based on an X-ray imaging device. The camera can be operated in the progressive mode, generating 30 frames/sec. with 1024 x 1024 matrix. First, we compared CCD's performance, including MTF, noise Wiener spectra, NEQ, with a conventional pick-up tube camera and a cine camera. Then we performed ROC analyses for the CCD camera and the cine camera to explore the possibility of replacing the cine camera with the CCD for cardiac imaging. The CCD's MTF was far superior to the pick-up tube's but slightly inferior to the cine camera. Furthermore, the CCD's MTF remained constant with the input light intensity changed, while the pick-up tube's changed. The CCD's Wiener spectrum was greater than the pick-up tube's in the high frequency region, but lower than the cine camera's throughout the frequency region. In the NEQ, the CCD surpassed the other two cameras, except that it showed a lower NEQ than the cine camera's in the higher frequency region than 1.5 cycles/mm. The ROC analysis showed that for static images, the CCD had superior imagimg to the cine camera, Az being 0.75:0.65 while for dynamic images, the CCD had slightly inferior imagimg, Az being 0.88:0.91.

In the present study, Gd-DTPA continuous intravenous injection 3D MR angiography using 3D IR preparation Fast SPGR by means of 180° pulse for pulse preparation, was investigated for optimal imaging parameters. 3D IR preparation Fast SPGR (TR 11 ms, TE 1.9 ms) which was used in the present study was rendered free of recovery time and inhibition by initiating a null point for fat impossible. The present Gd-DTPA continuous intravenous injection 3D MRA cannot maintain intravascular Gd-DTPA in high concentration because of a very short imaging time, but also improve Gd-DTPA-fat contrast by establishing optimal preparation times of 150-200 ms and FA 40°, and outline clinically superior angiograms with excellent contrast.
