In the case of chest tomography, particulaly the mediastinum and the plumonary hilar tomography are difficult to argue the matter without the exposure time factor. For that reason, these regions are much used rectilinear tomography for the shortening of the exposure time. However as for visuabilities of form, it is advisable for these regions to be used in multidirectional tomography. However, a longer exposure time is needed. Therefore, we experimented with stereozonography with a shorter exposure time by circuler direction using compensating filter and computed radiography Shifting distance of X-ray tube for stereography was 10% of distance between the focal spot and object. The exposure time and exposure angel were 0.6 sec and 2θ=3°,respectively. As a result, this stereozonography was excellent in the visuabilities of the mediastinal region, including bronchovascular shadows, allowing a detailed examination of the on images of these region. Compensating filter permitted improved image quality of the mediastinal regain. On the other hand, using the computed radiographic system, even if an artifact arose from disagreement between the form of the compensating filter and the mediastinal region, we could easily restored the nondiagnostic image by overall density manipulation and unsharp mask filtering.

We are reporting on a simple MR-angiography using images taken by the conventional multiple spin-echo(MSE) sequence. This method is based on the principle of even-echo rephasing and odd-echo dephasing of flowing fluid. In present work, the calculated image, which has the same TE as the 2nd-echo, is synthesized from the 1st-echo and 3rd-echo images. MR-angiography is produced by subtracting the calculated image and 2nd-echo image. MR-angiography is produced by subtracting the calculated image and 2nd-echo image. Phantom study is carried out with the continuous flow system. Preliminary application to the lower extremities of healthy volunteers is also reported.

Digitized images were obtained in two ways: one using laser scanning of a conventional mammographic film/screen system(referred to here as transmittance DR(digital radiography)), and the other using laser scanning of a photostimulable luminescence phosphor surface(referred to as an Imaging Plate(IP)), which creates light signals to be turned into electrical signals for digitalization(called reflection DR). Based on clinical cases and several phantom studies, digital images obtained in the above two ways were visually compared with each other. The reflection DR produced blurred images of small dot-like objects, casing them to appear much larger than their actual size. Therefore, even with the same aperture size(100-μm diameter), visibility was inferior to the reflection DR especially in cases involving minute calcifications. Additionally, there was a direct dependence on the visibility of linear and low contrast objects. The reflection DR did not make the best of its feature of rather of small aperture size, which may result during the stage in which light signals are acquired from the IP.

The temperature measurement is essential to clinical hyperthermia for achieving effective treatment. At present, a guide-tube is introdeced transcutaneously into tumor tissues so that a thermosensor can be inserted into the body. In this case, there may be a high risk of bacterial infection even if we are so careful with handing a guide-tube and thermosensor. To avoid this risk, we have developed a wireless temperature measurement system using a quartz thermosensor in cooperation with the Tokyo Communication Equipment Co, Ltd. The quartz thermosensor is used by direct implantation on tissues. Some characteristics of the system were discussed. A microcomputer is installed in this system, and each quartz thermosensor is available for temperature measurement only when a ROM corresponding to it is used. As a result, the high accuracy and stability of reading the temperature were achieved after measurements for 1 month. However, we had to pay attention to the implanted site of the thermosensor, since the temperature measurements were possible only when the distance between the end of thermosensor and detector was about 2.5cm or less.

The multipurpose ECT camera in our hospital has many functions. One of these is the continuous Spot whole-body imaging method(SWB) which is a new method repeating the movement of the detector and enabling the continuous acqusition of static images. We examined and compared the resolution and represented capability, etc of SWB with the conventional Whole Body imaging method(WB) using phantoms. We found that SWB has a higher resolution than WB, and the SWB images was clearer. because the elements in the picture matrix were greater in number. Furthermore, when comparing the time required for bone scintigrams, the WB takes about 40 min while the SWB takes 30 min in our hospital. Our results demonstrates that SWB is usefully incoporated for clinical examinations.

The performance of specialy designed an angiographic table for examination of legs and its image quality are discussed. A rotating long cassette changer having 6 cassettes with 10 X 36 in is placed under the table. The table and long cassette changer are tilted through a range from the vertical to horizontal position. The distance from the focus to the table top is 193.7cm and the focus-film distance is 200cm. The image quality are evaluated by the MTFs. For a vibration caused by rotating the long cassette changer, the image quality are slightly degraded. However, it is not the main reason of the degradation of overall image quality.
