ECG gated cardiac computed tomography (cardiac CT) has often been used recently as one of the highly useful techniques for examining the cardiac function. The software described in this paper was utilised to examine the left ventricular wall motion using the cardiac C.T. The equipment used for the cardiac CT was SOMATOM 2 (SIEMENS) equipped for dynamic scanning with a 5 sccond scan time and a 6 second interscan delay. Cardiac CT was performed after intravenous administration of a 50 cc bolus injection which is the usual contrast medium used in cardiac CT. Boundary detection of the left ventricle from the cardiac CT was carried out by the single thresholding. From the extracted binary left ventricle images the following image processings were done : (1) The changing left ventricular areas and the changing ratios of the left ventricle were calculated and displayed graphically. (2) The regional wall motion curves of the left ventricle during a cardiac cycle were displayed graphically. (3) The subtraction imgae with maximum area image and minimum area image was displayed on a CRT. (4) The motion of the extracted left ventricle image was displayed on a CRT as a moving picture. (5) The changing left ventricle was reconstructed and displayed as a shaded 3 dimensional image. With the use of the system and the software described in this paper, we can grasp the movement of the left ventricle exactly and evaluate the cardiac function quantitatively.

Neutron measurements for Mitsubishi ML-15M II B Medical linac operated in the 10 MV photon mode were carried out at different locations in a treatment room by an idone activation method with two Bonner spheres (11.5 cmφ, 20 cmφ). The method was established by Yamaguchi et. al. and can determine neutron fluence and flluence to dose equivalent conversion factor. The measurement of ^<128>I activity through ^<127>I (n, γ) ^<128>I reactions in iodoform detectors were taken after exposing each iodoform detector with or without the use of a cadmium filter (1.00 mm thick) in bare or in each of the Bonner spheres, and the results were used for determing the neutron fluence and the fluence to dose equivalent conversion factor. It also contains a method for estimating average energy of neutrons. 1. Major neutron sources considered within a treatment head are : Pt-target ; main collimator & the parts around it ; flattening filter and movable jaws in the case of 0×0 cm^2 field. Estimated relative yields for each of the above sources were 55,26,5 and 14% to total yield respectively. 2. Total leakage neutron source strength was found to be 6.4×10^<11> and 2.9×10^<11> neutrons/Gy of X-ray in the case of using Pt-target and Cu-target respectively. 3. Estimated average neutron energy was 0.43 MeV at a lacation near the front surface of the treatment head, and 0.36 MeV at the isocenter for 0×0 cm^2 field. The average energies at other locations in the room were also estimated. 4. The distribution of neutron dose equivalent in the room was approximately inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the target. At the isocenter, percent neutron dose equivalent per unit X-ray output was 0.2 and 0.06 %Sv/Gy of X-ray for 30×30 cm^2 (fully opened) and 0×0 cm^2 field respectively.

Reciprocity-Law failure leads to increased patient exposure in clinical radiography and affects the image quality of a radiograph. A green sensitive X-ray film was developed by an automatic processor at three different temperatures of 33℃, 35℃, and 37℃ respectively, and the reciprocity-law failure of the film was measured under these conditions. As a result, it has been found that reciprocity-law failure is more likely to occur at higher development temperature and lower density than at lower development temperature and higher density.

In the evaluation of the reliability of radiographic systems in terms of entropies, continuous variables are sampled or quantized for obtaining their probabilities. In this paper, it is explained that, with the decrease of sampled and quantized intervals, the input-, output- and joint-entropies, H (x), H (y) and H (x, y), diverge positively, whereas the transmitted inforamation T (x ; y) converges to a positive finite value. In referring to the conventional formulae for the entropies of continuous variables, T (x ; y) is effective. The availability of T (x ; y) for the evaluation of the reliability of systems is illustrated. An extrapolation method to determine the value of T (x ; y) is given. The present relations are extended to multivariable cases.
