For the disk method regarding scatter fraction measurements, the minimum diameter of the disk and the change in the scatter fraction by the position of the disks in the scatter material were investigated. The minimum diameter of the disk should be longer than the tail width of the line spread function measured experimentaly without scatter material. To compare the measured values of the scatter fraction, the lead disks were placed on top, at the intermediate layer and at the bottom of the scatter material. When the lead disks were arranged at the bottom of the scatter meterial, the measured value of scatter fraction increased only slightly more than the value obtained by placing the disks on the top of scatter material.

For stereotactic surgery with MRI, measuring the position of a target point is one of the important procedures. However, due to spatial distortion because of insufficient static field uniformity, some risk to errors is inevitable. So, we measured the spatial distortion of the two different MR scanners (0.15T, 0.5T) using a grid phantom and made an accuracy comparison between the outer marker and inner marker techniques. As a result, we recognized that the error is maximum at 4.8mm under the outer marker technique for the 0.5T MRI scanner, and yet, the lower magnetic field strength MRI causes more errors than the higher one. On the contrary, the inner marker technique which places a standard point near the target point error of only has a maximum 1mm. In conclusion, the inner marker technique should be applied in performing stereotactic surgery for the minimal positioning error.

Medical system has been recently devided into many divisions where appropriate examinations and treatments are performed by specialists in each field. Special and complicated radiologic examinations such as cardiovascular angiography are performed by specialists. An occupational exposure dose tends to increase and to be limited to some specialized physicians and technicans. Therefore, efficient protective equipment and clothing have to be seriously considered so as to decrease the occupational exposure does. The thyroid gland is not protected by any of the conventional protectors. We have tried to decreases the occupational exposures dose by improving the conventional protector and utilizing various other materials. The paper is a report on the effectiveness of the methods used and the results.

We have often encountered patients with dental metal when employing the 10 MV X-ray beam therapy for head and neck tumors, and felt it important to investigate the effect of dental metal in relation to dose distribution. The absorbed dose rose abruptly in the vicinity of the metal reaching an interface value equal to 150% of the dose within the acrylic phantom. These results showed that an overdose occurred about 5mm from the metal. We also learned that the overdose can be avoided by using a 5-mm thick tissue equivalent material. Six patients with dental metal were treated after first covering their metal with a 5-mm thick mouthpiece. No radiation stomatitis caused by the metal was observed in any of these cases.
