    In Japan many reinforced concrete buildings suffer from concrete cracks, especially leakage of rain through crack, which come primarily from hardening and drying shrinkage. Hitherto many investigations were made to prevent shrinkage crack of concrete. It is so far known that increasing the gypsum content of cement improves the shrinkage tendency of cement paste and mortar. At the same time, increasing the gypsum content under the present cement manufacturing process is liadle to cause the false set, and so it is disagreeadle today to increase the gypsum content of cement of cement. Here the author recognized the same effect of admixing gypsum with concrete as increasing the gypsum content of cement, and in this way tried to prevent cracking of concrete due to hardening and drying shrinkage. After the dasical study in the ladoratory, reinforced concrete roof slabs of apartment houses were chosen as field test objects and it was proved that the shrinkage cracks in concrete can be actually prevented by admixing the proper amount of gypsum with the original concrete mix. The adopted gypsum admixing ratio to the cement is 4 to 5% by weight, calculating gypsum as CaSO_4 constituent.

    In this papers we deal with the spherical shell which has a rather large valve of the wall-thickness by it's diameter. In such a case, when we solve the diffrencial equations the asymptotic method which is usually adopted to the thin-walled shell cannot be applied. The exact solution requires the very troublesome numerical work, but electronic digital computer will remove such difficulties to large extent. According to Flugge's theory, the solution is obtained in a form of power series. To discuss the stress state of the whole zone of spherical shell, eight series must be used, and linear-combination of these series make the general solution of our problem. Now we sholl consider an example which involves ten boundary conditions, and then as one of applycations of this problem, the spherical joint which is used for the space structure composed of steel tubes will be discussed in regard to its stress state and its ultimate strength.

    This paper presents an rigid-plastic analysis of the plastic deformations of a uniformly loaded square-portal frame subjected to the horizontal "blast type" impulsive loading. The results show that the horizontal deformation of the frame is nearly proportioned to the product of impulse I and excess-impulse I', where I=Pτ, I'=(P-P_s)τ in which P and τ denote force and time of the impulse, respectively, and P_s denotes horizontal strength of the frame.

    In this paper, the results of the measurements of sound absorbing characteristics of folding screen type perforated panel absorbents with porous materials are described. The measurements were made in our reverberation room of 169m^8 volume with an irregular pentagon shape. Following results were obtained. 1. The folding screen type perforated panel absorbents absorb nonselectively in the more broad frequency range than the absorbent with a constant air space. For example, the panels, perforation percentage p=6%, of the folding screen type walls show almost the same width of absorption curve as the panels of p=30% having a constant air space. 2. Now a days, the folding screen type walls are used frequently in an auditorium as the politriangular diffusors. In these types, the air space of them varies from maximum thickness L_1 to minimum thickness L_2 continuously. Thus, the perforated panel absorbent with this shape can be considered as a multiple parallel connection unit of many resonators, and the resonance frequencies are calculated by the formula [numerical formula] 3. In general, the characteristics curves of the measured sound absorption coefficient show the "flat" maximum part in the range between f_1 and f_2 calculated by above formulae. But, if p is large, the maximum part of the curve tends to shift towards f_1 rather than f_2.

    This is the second report of the several series of investigations on the function of housing estate in human life. In this research we tried to know how peopie living in the housing estate spend their times; to where do they attend the offices; to where do they go shopping and, where they spend their leisure time. Actual survey was done at the same time to the same people living in the Kori-Danchi mentioned in the first report. Sociologist group joined us. Some of the results of the research are as follows: 1) offces in large city, e.g. Osaka in this case. 2) People do their daily shopping in the housing estate area. But, on the contrary, they get extensive and hobby goods at the department store in large city. Therefore, the shopping centres in the housing estate should be designed as concentrative and attractive as possible if they want to attract the people going towards the department store in near large city. 3) People spend the most of leisure time in their own private houses. In this meaning, the houses or dwelling units should also be designed for these leisure time. 4) People spend leisure time often in the housing estate area other than their own houses or dwelling units under the present circumstances. They also wish to extend their leisure time more mainly for culture or amusement. Therefore, much facilities for these purposes should be taken into consideration in the design of housing estate, as well as in other areas.
