The results of experimental studies on the following problems in the high energy electron beam therapy were reported : 1. On the measurements of the outputs and doses. Problems in conducting the measurements on the ionization type dosemeters were examined ; and, also, problems in other dosimetry were investigated. 2. Measurements of the energy. The practical range method and the radioactivating method were studied. And the fabrication of simple energy checkers which may utilize magnets and their applications were described. 3. As the subject of study in regard to the dose distribution, the relationships of the dose distribution with such factors as the energy, scatterer, area of radiation field and the material and shape of the treatment cone were scrutinized, respectively. 4. The attempts at improving the dose distribution. Several approaches were made with the aim of extending as much as possible the range of theraputic capacity of the acceleretors with the definit upper limits on enargy. The principal aims of these attempts were to increase the depth dose, and particularly, to give an effective radiationto small focns.

It has been reported that as the portable self-rectifier x-ray apparatus the energy of only 1/2 the electric dycle and the volume of x-ray generation is insufficient, the taking of instantaneous x-rays is not possible. Ter Pogossian stated that of the equipment presently used by radiologists, self-rectifiers can be found only in portable x-ray apparatuses, and that the current trend is to discontinue this system. This is due, it is felt, to the fact that instantaneous x-rays cannot be taken with such portable units. Following careful stuby of the apparatus and devotion of much effort to experimental work, the authors have been successful in obtaining instantaneous x-rays with remarkable roentgenographic effectiveness. The findings are being reported herewith.

The formula is reported to obtain the absorption coefficients of the continuous X-rays for several phantoms, using two kinds of grid. The equation of the formula is the same as that reported previously. μ_2=A (λ^n+B) ; A=ai exp (-mx) The constants a, B and m in this equation are obtained experimentaly using four kinds of phantoms and two kinds of grid When the grid is used, the constants a and exp (-mx) are obtained larger than those without grid, that is, the correction factors for sample thickness are estimated larger. In the practical application using these constants, the exposure time s (sec) is easily obtained from I_0 (=λ is) (mR) for I (mR)=1,and the desities of the photographs obtained are satisfactory. The experimental procedure to obtain these constants and their results are reported in this paper.

We discussed the characteristics of the screens in order to develop the TV apparatus for high energy X-ray. This X-ray TV apparatus was used to check the irradiated field during irradiation. Our device was equipped with a screen anb an ultra-sensitivity TV camera (Silicon-electron multiplication). We investigated the following problems of several kinds of screens, because we considered the property of the screen played an important role in case of high energy X-ray. These were the relation between the brightness of screens and the dose of high energy X-ray or the thickness of Pb-foil. Here we reported our results of measurements on characteristics of screens in this paper.

We have no doubt that there remained inrprovements in quality of image tube, television camera tube, optical lenses etc, in order to inprove the fluoroscopic image quality in case of an X-ray television system consisting of a closed circuit television and an image amplifier. The dual field X-ray image amplifier has been developed to obtain better image quality, but it has two defects. Namely, the one is the discontinuity of the image on changing, Viewing field diameter and the other is limited selection of two field sizes, nemely 11 inches and 7 inches. Recently, we have experienced the clinical application of zoom image amplifier which permits continuous change of the viewing field diameter from 11 inches to 5 inches and instantaneous change of the viewing field diamerer, combined with television and 70mm still camera for a fairly long time. As the result, we got the probe of the usefullness of zoom image amplifier, as a tool for gastro-intestinal diagnosis.
