It is necessary for tele-cobalt therapy to use the radiation filter to shut off the secondary ray. In general, we use cadmium plate for the secondary radiation filter, but is not convenient for light localizer because of its opacity. The clear glass is better than cadmium plate. When we decide the position of field, cadmium plate must be taken off. Cadmium plate is a few better than the clear glass to shutt off the secondary ray. But clear glass is better than non filter. The glass plate can be used practically with cadmium plate which has the holes such as honey comb.

A pair of pendel irradiation technique is the method of combining two pendel irradiation with rectangular field on the different rotation axis, and is aimed to produce a high dose region like a tumor area. Meanwhile, conformation technique is able to give a maximum dose to the deformed tumor selectively with the minimum dose to the surrounding normal tissues. It above two technique were combined, the drawbacks of each method would be compensated each other, and more reasonable dose distribution required in clinical case would be obtained. In this paper, experimented results and the technique of pendel irradiation combined with conformation mechanism in order to produce a concaved high dose region required for the whole pelvis irradiation of carc. of the cervix uteri were discribed. Dose distribution were obtained phantom experiment and the contour of high dose region were agree well with expected target area. Dose variation along the rotation axis was less than 5 percent. Dose homogeneities on the vertical and sagital plane were acceptable level for the clinical porpose. The differences of Tissue Peak Ratio between Calculated value and experimented value were 2 percent at the most. No particular differences were recognized on the method of dose estimation, tumor localization compared with the other technique. This technique is commonly applied for the treatment of carc. of the cervix uteri in our department for a year.

A method of taking transverse section scintigraphy using a minicomputer and Anger-type camera is described. A rotating table for a patient is so set that the rotation center should be placed within perpendicular line of the center of the detector facing sideways. Scintigrams taken from at 4 directions (0°, 90°, 180° and 270°) are recorded on the magnetic tape. Radioisotope distribution in an X-Y-Z-coordinate system is subdivided into 40×40×40 matrix of equal size. The counts divided are given to each elements. Density values could be represented from 10 to 100 percent in 40×40 matrix. In a phantom study using the Alderson mock liver, 3 cm-and 4 cm-sized cold areas were well demonstrated on the transverse section image. Several fundamental experiments were performed using a point source in polyvinyle tube, and the resolving power was obtained to be 1.5 cm. Some clinical trials of the normal brain and liver were also demonstrated.

Recently, due to the increasing of Angiography, AOT equipment has been using so generally, particularly in the field of skullogy it is enforced as daily routine works. We research the cause of the troubles on AOT, the basic factor of the intensifying screen for AOT and examined the working limit, the cause of damages of the screen under the practical use. We also examined the efficiency the screen on AOT comparing with Japan made ones, furthermore, examined the screen which used over the working limit comparing with the unused screen which produced at the same time as screen on AOT. By the results of our examination, the decline of efficiency is caused from the time passages less more than frequent of exposure. We suppose it was happened from the damages on the surface of the screen. Pertaining to the life of the screen on AOT, on bi-plane model is shorter than on single model. The followings are the results of our research and examination of the Intensifying screen and AOT equipment through our practical use.

    1. The focal spot size is measured by the usual resolving power measuring method in the subject of a so-called 50 μ X-ray tube (DRX-89H) and also a so-called 100 μ X-ray tube (E7027X). The values measured are slightly greater than the given values. The width of the tube focus is equal to the length. 2. The optimal enlargement ratio in macroradiography is evaluated with modulation transfer function. The Fuji RX-S film, Fuji Hi-screen-STD intensifying screen were used. The Optiker Funk chart was used as the object. When the water phantom of 10 cm in thickness was used, the 7.9 times magnification showed maximum response value at the range of high frequency over 8 Lp/mm at A point (on the table). In case of 7.9 times at point A, at the point B which is located 10 cm above the point A, the 4.7 times magnification was obtained. The MTF of 4.7 times magnification at point B is almost equal to the value of 5.0 times magnification at point A. The response showed the highest value in 9.8 times magnification at point A with water phantom of 2O cm in thickness. 3. The contrast of contrast medium was effected by the thickness of the scatterer. The contrast medium of Angiographin, and Lipiodol Ultrafluid showed slight decrease in contrast with the 20 cm water phantom. 4. The optimal magnification ratio was studied clinically in a point of views of movement of the body and exposure time. In the case of alveolar macroradiography the magnification in optimum was 4 times. In case of lymphography, the magnification in optimum is 4 to 6 times. 5. The macro-tomography is applied mostly to the inner ear study which showed no movement because of the exposure time longer surch as 3.2 seconds. 6. The exposure dose to the patient in macroradiography is 3 times higher when compared to the usual radiography. The exposure field should be minimum as strictly as possible.

On the occasion of symposium presentation for the 32rd general assembly of JART, in Fukushima May 1976,this report was written. We have studied on the enlarging radiography, using a fine focus X-tube of 0.05 mm, more than 4 times magnification for alive body, phantom equivalent to it, especially head bone, suditory bone, auditory occicles chain. We encountered many problems, found some solutions for them, but leaving some of them yet. This contains following ; ○ prologue ○ fine focus X-tube ○ photo material ○ exposure dose ○ magnification ○ enlarging X-ray apparatus ○ radiographic appearance of auditory occicles ○ application of enlarging radiography to oto-laryngology ○ etc. ○ epilogue

Macroradiography with soft X-ray is considered to be useful for the detection of early lesion in breast, thyroid and soft parts of extremities. Whereas the microcalcification in breast cancer, also in thyroid cancer is very important radiological findings, its clear demonstration is not usually easy. The retrospetive study of the mammograms taken in our department revealed that 43% of the breast cancer cases showed microcalcification on the films. Also it was found that the majority of the microcalcifications were smaller than 300 microns in diameter. Thus, we have studied on the technical factors extensively to obtain more useful mamography images, comparing with the conventional mammography technique. Accordingly, the main focus of this study was placed on the development of macro-mammography tech nique especially on the precise revelation of the microcalcifications. However, this effort was lead to the development of the macroradiography of soft tissue in general, as the results. For this particular research purpose, special x-ray tube furnished with ultrafine focus (100 microns) and with carefully designed full-wave rectifier was developed. Also, auxillary apparatus, cassets and X-ray table (for bidirectional use) were specially designed. Utilizing these new inventions, we finally reached the practically satisfactory technical factors for macromammography, as follows : magnification : 2〜3 times, kVp : 25kVp, FFD : 70cm, mA : 8〜10mA, focus : 100 microns, Exposure : 2〜3 sec, (Surface Doses : 300〜800 mR), (The compression of the breast is recommened), Film : LoD, Screen (bcak) : LU (Toshiba)
