Using multiplex holography (MH), we tried to show a three-dimentional display of nuclear images. There were no level-down of resolution when composed to hologram. A clinical problem, existed in which some images had distortion at their edges. We examined the resolution using a SPECT phantom. In MH by planar image, both legions were 22.4 mmφ, in MH by CRT data and three-dimentional display on the CRT, both legions were 22.4 mmφ. Three-dimentional display by MH using planar image takes a long time for data collection, but there was no level-down of resolution. We used digital filters for further improvement of the quality of the original image. Band pass and Wiener filters are available, but I think it is necessary to develop the most suitable filter for each internal organ. In the results, three-dimentional display by MH is the most available method regarding education and clinical medicine.

In radiographs of the chest, it is difficult to describe the lung and the mediastinum at the proper density on one sheet of film. It seems to us that the use of wide latitude film for chest radiography easily clears up these difficulties. However, its adaptability for chest radiography is discussed in relation to the lack of contrast in the region of the lung and some other problems. We obtained the number of noise-equvalent qunta (NEQ(u)), the detectability and the detective quantum efficiency (DQE(u)) through low to high density on wide latitude film and conventional film with the same screen, and investigated the adaptability of these two films to chest radiography by using these characteristic figures. It is possible to evaluate the image quality of screen/film systems by using NEQ(u), the detectability, and DQE(u). The conventional film system is superior than the wide latitude film system in terms of NEQ(u), DQE(u) and detectability in all density regions. Therfore, the conventional film system with a compensating filter or a compensated speed screen is better than the wide latitude film system for the chest radiography.

A Monte Carlo computer program was used to analyze the characteristics of scattered radiation in a phantom irradiated by 10 MV X-rays. The program simulated an irradiation by 10 MV X-ray with 0 area field upon the center of a 30×30×30 cm water phantom, and scored energy imparted on the beam axis by interactions of primary photons (primary dose) and energy imparted in the rings, with radius R and depth d, by interactions of scattered photons. The dose on the beam axis for circular fields due to scattered radiation (scatter dose) were calculated from energy imparted data for these rings by means of the superposition principle. Scatter-primary dose ratios at the reference depth were calculated from the primary dose and scatter dose data, and these ratios did not fluctuate beyond 0.3% for some fluctuations of electron accelerated energy, etc. Tissue-primary dose ratio and Scatter-primary dose ratio data for each depth were calculated from the Scatter-Primary dose ratio data at the reference depth and the standard data of percentage depth dose.

The chest phantom was modeled on that of a lung cancer. For the screen-film system and magnification radiography, the detectability of solitary-nodules in a chest radiograph was quantified in terms of the results of observer performance experiments by using ROC analysis. In contact radiography, high-resolution rare earth screen systems set a high value on the detection of solitary-nodules. Upon evaluation, high-resolution rare earth screen systems were found to be better than the medium-speed regular systems (Hiscreen-RX) being used mostly in clinical examinations at present. It was apparent that detectability in magnification radiography was improved as compared with detectability in contact radiography. In addition, there is little difference in detectability among the three screen-film systems used in magnification radiography. Considering the increase of exposure and the unsharpness caused by patient movement, it is better to use rare earth screen systems with high speed in magnification radiography. Sensitivity is improved, both in contact and magnification radiography, by Copper filtering.
