Using chloralose and urethane anesthetized dogs, the effects of PG I2, E2, D2 and F on blood flow were examined in the coronary, renal and femoral vascular beds.
PG I2, E2 and D2 increased all vascular blood flow in a dose dependent manner, but PG F had no effect. The vasodilator effects of PG I2 and E2 were similar to or more potent than those of PG D2. PGI2 and E2 were more effective in the femoral vascular bed than in the coronary vasculature. These results suggest that the receptors for these PGs are different in the three vasculatures.

In this study we recorded the myoelectric activity in opossums' sphincter of Oddi (SO) and gastrointestinal tracts, in conscious state, using chronically implanted electrodes. Bipolar electrodes were implanted in the gastric antrum, duodenum, SO segment, jejunum and ileum. During fasting the frequency of SO spike bursts showed a cyclic pattern consisting of four phases (A-D). There is a very close relationship between the interdigestive migrating myoelectric complex (MMC) of the gastrointestinal tract and the SO activity. The ontet to phase C in the SO, characterized by a maximal spike burst frequency, began 1-2 min before phase III of MMC activity in the duodenum, The phase activity from the gastric antrum and phase C activity from the SO propagated so as to meet at the choledochoduodenal junction.
During fasting CCK-OP and pentagastrin increased the SO spike burst frequency and abolished the periodically recurring pattern in the gastrointestinal tract and SO.
After feeding the SO spike burst frequency began to increase quickly and lasted for at least 3 h.
In conclusion, during fasting there exists a very close relationship between MMC and SO activity in opossums, but the physiological role of the relationship and the control mechanisms remain to be determined.

We succeeded in making biodegradable composites which could release LH-RH agonist (Leuprolide acetate) sustainedly. Those composites used poly-D, L-Lactic acid as the carrier (sandwich type). There was a difference in the releasing profile of Leuprolide acetate from the composites. The composite named SW-PLA 12 using poly-D, L-Lactic acid, which was polymerized for 12 hours (Mn 2200), released Leuprolide acetate 8 weeks after subcutaneous implantation. The releasing profile of SW-PLA 12 is better than SW-PLA 8 (Mn 1850). So at this point, SW-PLA 12 is more useful in 1 or 2 months clinical trials. Leuprolide acetate from the composites could decrease the weights of the accessory sex organs of rats. Composites releasing leuprolide acetate sustainedly will soon reduce the total dose of leuprolide acetate and clinical side effects, and improve patient compliance.

Twenty-two patients with urothelial cancers who received radical operations from April 1984 to December 1986 were studied. The patients received adjuvant chemotherapy after the operations with two regimens : regimen 1 (CA) consisted of 15-20 mg/m2 cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP) on days 1-5, 30 mg/m2 adriamycin (ADM) on day 2 ; regimen 2 (CAF) consisted of 15-20 mg/m2 CDDP on days 1-5, 30 mg/m2 ADM on day 5, 250 mg/day 5-fluorouracil on days 1-10. The two regimens were repeated more than once. After adjuvant therapy, the maintenance therapy used was UFT, 3 tablets/day orally.
Twenty-two patients were followed for a mean of 18.5 months. The over-all 1 and 2-year actuarial survival rate was 89.8%. The survival rates of badder cancer patients with adjuvant chemotherapy were improved with non-adjuvant chemotherapy, as reported previously. None of patients with renal pelvic or ureter tumor died. Tumor recurrences were observed at local sites in 1 patient, in the lung in 1 patient and in subcutaneous tissue in 1 patient. Myelosuppression and vomiting occurred but the degrees were minimal.
Adjuvant chemotherapy with CA and CAF regimens were effective for urothelial cancers.

Twelve patients with complete transposition of the great artery underwent balloon atrial septostomy between July 1977 and May 1982 at the Gunma Children's Medical Center. In 9 of 12 patients, the balloon atrial septostomy was successful.
Balloon atrial septostomy has dramatically improved life expectancy for newborn and infants with complete transposition of the great artery.
Recently, surgical correction of complete transposition of the great artery has been very successful.

To study the significance of family history in the incidence of breast cancer, we investigated the family histories of 509 patients (breast cancer : 321 cases, benign disease : 188 cases).
The conclusions from the above investigation were : 1) Family histories of breast cancer and malignant neoplasm generally were more frequent in patients with breast cancer than in those with benign disease. 2) The incidence of familial breast cancer tended to be higher in younger age groups and premenopausal cases, but the incidence of all malignant neoplasma tended to be higher in older age groups and postmenopausal cases.
These facts suggest that hereditary factors affect the incidence of breast cancer. A family history of breast cancer increases the incidence of breast cancer in the family, and it also has a risk of onset in early years.
