Since January 1986, SMANCS/LIPIODOL (SMANCS/LPD) has been used as a new therapy for hepatic malignant tumors (primary & secondary).
SMANCS/LPD is a high-molecular-weight anticancer agent consisting of SMANCS (1mg) dissolved in Lipiodol (1ml). This agent collects only in the tumor cells selectively, and remains active for a long period.
A total of 5ml of SMANCS/LPD was injected into the inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery of a 35-year-old male patient with hepatoma on two occasions. Twenty days after the 2nd injection, the hepatoma was resected and examined both radiologically & pathologically. Almost all tumor cells were destroyed except for a small area of viable cancer cells on the tumor capsule.
If repeated, targeting chemotherapy using SMANCS/LPD is highly effective against hepatic malignant tumors.

A total of 847 patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Medicine, Kusatsu Branch Hospital, Gunma University School of Medicine, between April 1979 and March 1986 was analyzed with respect to sex, age, month, place of residence, and disease. Of the 847 patients, 454 (53.6%) were female and 483 (57.0%) were more than 60 years of age. Around 74% were residents in the Kusatsu area including Kusatsu-machi, Naganohara-machi, Tsumagoi-mura, and Kuni-mura. The number of patients hospitalized in September was slightly smaller than that in any other month. Among all the patients' diseases, cardiovascular disease had the highest (20.7%) frequency, followed by neurologic (17.3%), respiratory (17.2%), gastrointestinal (15.4%), endocrine and metabolic (6.6%), hematologic (6.5%), renal and urinary tract (4.1%), and connective tissue diseases (3.0%). The order in patients more than 60 years old was as follows : cardiovascular (23.7%), respiratory (18.9%), neurologic (17.7%), gastrointestinal (11.9%), hematologic (7.9%), endocrine and metabolic (5.8%), renal and urinary tract (4.1%), and connective tissue diseases (2.7%). Heart disease, bronchopnemonia, cerebrovascular disease and diabetes mellitus were the most common conditions in elderly patients.

A case of traumatic dislocation of the testis was reported. A 17-year-old male was admitted because of traumatic bone fracture. On the fllowing day he was introduced to our department with complaints of right groin pain and swelling. Investigative surgery was performed and the testis was replaced in the scrotum.
Classification of unopened testicular injury was explained and the cause of testicular dislocation and its frequency of occurrence were discussed. It was emphasised that surgical investigation must be performed without hesitation in suspected cases.

Dyschondrosteosis is a syndrome of Madelung's deformity, mesomelia, and mildly short stature, which is probably transmitted through autosomal dominant inheritance. To our knowledge, only a few cases of this condition have been reported in the Japanese literature. We present two cases of dyschondrosteosis. In one case, the condition appears to have occurred sporadically. Apart from the changes typical of Madelung's deformity, roentgenograms of their extremities demonstrated various abnormalities of the proximal radius, tibia vara, shortening of the radius in relation to the humerus, and shortening of the tibia in relation to the femur. The probable relationship of Madelung's deformity, dyschondrosteosis, and mesomelic dwarfism is described.

We experienced a case of gastric and terminal ileac tuberculosis diagnosed by endoscopic biopsy.
A 20-year-old woman visited our hospital because of epigastric pain on April 25, 1984. Laboratory findings revealed only moderate iron deficiency anemia and mild acceleration of blood sedimentation rate. Endoscopic examination of the stomach revealed multiple ulcers with an irregular margin on the lesser curvature of the gastric body and angle. Biopsy specimens of the stomach showed epithelioid cell granulomas with Langhans giant cells. Barium enema showed an irregular wall and small ulcers in the terminal ileum. Epithelioid cell granulomas with Langhans giant cells were also found in biopsy specimens of the terminal ileum.
A tentative diagnosis of tuberculosis was made and treatment with INH, RFP and EB was started. After one year, these endoscopic and histological findings had disappeared. From the therapeutic response to anti-tuberculous drugs, we considered that tuberculosis had been primarily responsible for these lesions.
Only fifteen cases of gastric tuberculosis diagnosed by endoscopic biopsy have been reported in Japan.

A 73-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of ileocaecalgia. A barium enema examination showed a filling defect in the terminal ileum. Gallium scintigraphy demonstrated two hot lesions in the ileocaecal region. A CT scan of the abdomen revealed enhanced mass in the same region.
Upon surgery, a tumor was found in the terminal ileum and regional nodes were enlarged. Right hemicolectomy was performed. The resected specimen showed a well-defined ulcer, 4.0×6.0cm in size. Microscopical examination revealed a large diffuse cell lymphoma which was and LN-1(+), IgM(+), light chain(+), immunohistologically.
Postoperatively, 30-Gy irradiation was carried out and combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide (750 mg/m2), adriamycin (50mg/m2), oncovin (1.8mg/m2), and predonine (100mg/ body/5 days) was prescribed. Twelve months after the operation, the patient is well with no evidence of recurrent disease.

Three dimentional imaging for medical purpose using computer graphics has been developed with the rapid advance in electronic techology. From a set of parallel transverse CT slices, we obtained three dimensional images of pancreases of 14 patients by image processing system using VAX 11/780. With the result this paper describes recent reserch tends and several problems awaiting solution in three dimensional imaging.
