We studied the development of Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA) widely used for observing the kinetics or mechanism of cellular proliferation in nasal polyps. PCNA-positive cells were found to develop on the gland epithelium and epithelial cells. Each epithelium has a different shape, and thus in the ciliated epithelium of the affected portion there appeared no significant difference from that of normal maxillary sinus mucosa. In the portion of squamous metaplasia, on the other hand, many PCNA-positive cells were observed in the area ranging from the basal layer to the epidermal layer, suggesting the active cell division and proliferation. In the area indicative of hyperplasia, there were a lot of secretory cells observed, and a great many PCNA-positive cells were recognized in goblet cells as well as in the basal cells. This showed that in the epithelium of nasal polyps, goblet cells also have a vitally proliferating potential, which was suggestive of possibility that hyperplasia of epithelial cells during inflammation may cause the proliferation of secretory cells as well. These findings have led us to postulate that the proliferation of goblet cells may be regarded as a biotical reaction occurring in the course of recovery when epithelial cells are affected by inflammation.

A 26-year-old male came to our clinic with the complaints of diplopia and dizziness. Although his complaints had persisted from 11 years ago, examinations including computed tomography scan had not shown any abnomal findings.
Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) indicated right-side brainstem lesions.
Monocular recordings of the optokinetic pattern test (OKP) and eye tracking test (ETT) showed right-side pontine dorsal lesions with paramedian pontine reticular formation (PPRF) and medial longitudinal fasciculus (MLF). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a high intensity area in the thalamus, occipital lobe, tegmentum and pons on T 2-weighted images. The tumor was diagnosed as gliomatosis cerbri by the histopathological examination of the needle biopsy from the occipital lobe lesion. In spite of intensive chemotherapy, he died of respiratory complications 7 months after admission. Gliomatosis cerebri is a rare clinical entity characterized by diffuse and infiltrative overgrowth of the tumor cells. Most of the reported cases were diagnosed by autopsy because the clinical diagnosis of gliomatosis cerebri has been difficult. We made the clinical diagnosis of pontine gliomatosis cerebri based on the MRI findings and biopsy. Neurotological findings were useful for defining the pontine lesions. The clinical diagnosis and neurotological findings of the present case are discussed in this report.

We have reported a patient suffering from a brain tumor with the main complaint of right pulsatile tinnitus. Pure tone audiometry gave results within the normal renge, and no abnormal findings were obtained in the ABR and nystagmus tests. Since the tinnitus was persistent, we conducted an MRI examination, which revealed a tumor shadow extending from the left frontal lobe to the parietal lobe. The pathological examination conducted after craniotomy revealed a meningioma with extremely abundant neovascularization. The tinnitus ameliorated postoperatively, and then eventually disappeared. It was inferred that the right middle meningeal artery grew larger as a collateral vessel and that increased blood flow through the said artery was felt as pulsatile tinnitus by the right ear opposite to the tumor. In cases with persistent pulsatile tinnitus in whom no abnormalities are detected by audiometry, precise examination should be performed by MRI, etc., taking into consideration possible intracranial diseases.

The psychosomatic state of 74 patients with a complaint of lump sensation in the throat was evaluated by the Manifest Anxiety Scale (MAS). The results were summerized as follows;
1. The average of the manifest anxiety scale score (MAS score) in all patients was 16.1 and the standard deviation was 8.4.
2. 18 patients were excluded from the subjects because their question score was more than 11 or their lie score was more than 10.
3. The average of MAS score in 56 subjects was 17.2 and the standard deviation was 8.9.
4. The average of MAS score in males of the 56 patients was 14.3 and that of females was 18.4.
5. Minor tranqulizers et al. were prescribed to the patients.
6. The drugs showed greater effects in patients who were evaluated as normal in MAS test.

AlaSTAT is one of the newest test systems for specific IgE antigens using the enzyme immunoassay (EIA). This test system was applied to examine ten specific IgE antigens including pollens of Japanese ceder.
The results are as follows. Duplicated sensitization was found in 80% of all antigens. Japanese ceder showed the highest (73%) rate of sensitization.
Cypress was found to be positive only in 53% of the subjects positive for Japanese ceder, while Japanese ceder was positive in 87% of the subjects positive for cypress. High rate of duplicated sensitization was also found between mites and housedust-6.

We retrospectively investigated 80 cases of cerebellopontine angle space-occupying lesion (CP angle SOL) including acoustic neuroma. This study demonstrated that approximately 20% of the CP angle SOL cases complaining chiefly of unilateral acoustic sympton (56 cases) or vertigo (17 cases) showed false negative finding on otoneurological examinations and plain X-ray picture of internal acoustic canal. Considering that cerebrovascular disorder is also an important etiology of vertigo, early MRI study is recommended in order to rule-out central pathologies on the cases with unilateral acoustic sympton or vertigo showing difficulty to be clearly diagnosed or delay to improve.

We encountered a case of massive hemorrhage that occurred 4 days after tonsillectomy. The patient fell into asphyxia due to aspiration of blood clots, which caused cardiopulmonary arrest. Emergent tracheostomy was performed, and the patient's life was saved by resuscitation. Insufficient postoperative rest was considered as the cause. Although tonsillectomy is an operation which is frequently and relatively casually performed, we recognized again that this operation has a dangerous aspect. In this paper, we emphasized importance of thorough implementation of prophylactic measures and accurate response to emergency.
