A total of ten cases of neurilemmoma were encountered during the last several years at the department of otolaryngology at Jikei University School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals.
They were two cases of neurilemmoma of the ear, two cases of the nose or paranasal sinuses, three cases of the pharynx, two cases of the cervical region, and one of the face.
The number of the cases of neurilimmoma reported so for in Japanese literature amounted to 88 (38 cases in male, 44 in female and 6 unknown) exclusive of acoustic neurinoma. The number of cases presented in medical meetings counted to be 107 cases (36 cases in male 58 cases in female and 13 cases unkown).
The ratio of incidence among male and female was 1 to 1.38. The general notion that neurilemmoma is a rare disease should be corrected when we see this number of incidence.
The site of occurance was the tongue 40 cases, cervical region 36 cases pharynx 32 cases 36 cases larynx 27 cases, paranasal sinuses 22 cases and the middle ear 10 cases.
The author discussed on the ages, symptoms, site of frequent occurence and on surgical procedures featured by
1) Preoperative neurologic examination.
2) Anatomical relations with sorounding tissue or organs.
3) preventive measures of injury to major organs.
4) Nerve anastomosis following to resection of the tumor.
