Four cases of acoustic trauma developed after a chemical explosion (alylazide) were reported with their 3 months follow up.
The amount of damage on the eighth nerve depends on the distance from the site of explosion and head position of the patient.
Sign of recovery appeared within a week, first rapidly then slowly. Two of the milder cases recovered completely within a month but remaining two showed persistent high tone drop. One of them complained severe tinnitus.
High dose of vitamin B1 and A, ATP preparation were given parenterally, and pantetonic acid was given orally as treatment for all cases.
