The results of the researches about the relation between the contents of the three constituents, ZrO
2, K
2O, and MoO
3, in the frit for flame spraying of vitreous enamel, and the resistability to acid as well as the coefficient of thermal expansion are as follows;
(1) There exists a definite relation between the amount of the frit dissolved and the concentration of hydrochloric acid used.
(2) The resistibility to acid is simply and rapidly determined by titration.
(3) The addition of ZrO
2 does not deteriorate the resistability to acid.
(4) MoO
3 seems to have a special effect on the coefficient of thermal expansion. The addition of even a small amount of MoO
3 makes it twice as large as those of ZrO
2 and K
2O systems, but further addition of MoO
3 doesn't make any difference in the value of the coefficient.
(5) By the addition of MoO
3, the softening begins at about 200°C.
