    Based on some papers by Felber et al., advantages of terminology and outlines of theory of terminology, Infoterm, termbank and TermNet are explained. Advantages of termbank and its basic structural elements (data, input, files, retrieval, output) are also explained. Then some examples of termbank, interrelation of termbanks and recent trends are introduced. Finally, advantages and outline of TermNet and the roles of termbank in it are described.

    Dai Nippon Printing Company which has been developing a processing technology of characters, graphs and images for a long time, launched “DNP Multi-media Conversion System” by applying CTS (Computerized Typesetting System) technology. Media conversion of the bulky database into CD-ROM using this System is explained. Data input method to CD-ROM and system operation are also described. The examples are as follows.     This report outlines “Repoir” (Report information retrieval) system of Toyota Central R & D Laboratories, Inc. as an example of in-house information retrieval system. The online system was designed to process in-house technical reports with the aid of a mainframe computer and has been in operation since 1979. Its features are multiple use of the information for technical and managerial purposes and simplicity in indexing and data input. The total number of descriptors, specially selected for the system, was minimized for ease of indexing. The report also describes the input items, processing flow and typical outputs in kanji letters.
