The importance of creative media supporting creative acts is getting to be higher in the "creative society", where people work towards creating the future with their own hands, after the consumption society and the communication society. This paper focuses on pattern languages, which is a method to share the design knowledge, as creative media, and especially explores the potential of pattern languages for human actions, although the idea of pattern languages was proposed for collaborations in architecture design and adopted much in software design; and it shows the examples of pattern languages for human actions: the Learning Patterns, the Presentation Patterns, and the Collaboration Patterns. Furthermore, a new wave around pattern languages is called "pattern language 3.0", distinguishing it from the previous stages. Then, the features of pattern language 3.0 are discussed in following three aspects: the target of design, the definition of design, and the purpose of the languages.
The Japan Association for Philosophy of Science is an academic society in the field of philosophy of science in a broad sense, which includes philosophy of mathematics, psychology, and technology. The association was founded in 1954 by the leading scientists and philosophers in Japan, and it has been publishing an academic journal in Japanese since 1954 and an academic journal in European languages since 1956. In this study, we firstly analyze problems of publishing the academic journal of the association in European languages, and examine the aims and the difficulty of publishing academic journals in European languages in the fields of human and social sciences. Then, we introduce methods for improvements of the citation index and the acceptance rate of academic journals, and consider problems about evaluations of academic journals based on these numerical indices. At last, we discuss the multifariousness of the roles of academic journals and academic societies, and the importance of their collaborations.
The “K computer” which became the top of the world in the TOP500 list in June 2011 and November 2011 was completed in the end of June 2012 and has started public utilization from the end of September 2012. The outcomes of the “K computer” have come out such as winners of the Gordon Bell Prize in 2011 and 2012 who were pilot groups of it. In this article we report the overview, the way to completion, current status, operation, organizations for public utilization, computational resource allotment, applications of projects, the basis of selection, results of applications, support programs, access-points for industrial use, and available software of the “K computer”.
Digital signage, which consists of display, network, and information, is spreading over and expected as a growing market. Three “P”s can be pointed out as trend. 1) Personal: Home digital signage has been developed. 2) Public: Schools, hospitals, governments are now big users. 3) Pop: You can find a lot of enjoyable content. In addition, it is evolving to a more useful media connecting with digital networks and social network services.
The organizations of Science and Technology Information (STI) dissemination such as foreign information providing companies have done the global business due to the progression of IT and expansion of STI in the world. Organizations in Japan including JST have to expand their business not only inside of the country but also in the world. In 2012 we looked up the situation of STI dissemination in Asian countries and regions in this research. At first we conducted the search for the potential of STI dissemination, then the needs of STI from Japan. Lastly we investigated what forms of STI dissemination are needed in near future.
