    The first release of CD-ROM XA was anounced in March, 1989. This anouncement means that the interleaved ADPCM Audio system of the GREEN BOOK is applied to the specifications of CD-ROM. Accordingly it could lead to expanding application areas of CD-ROM. On the other hand within this year the logical format of video and graphics of CD-ROM XA will be probably confirmed. It will open the door to the new technology of CD-ROM, the real multimedia in the future. Hereafter will mention the summary of this release and the introduction of our first trial sample software, "TIBETAN ART in LADAKH" on CD-ROM XA.

    Nihoh Keizai Shimbun started supplying "Industry/Technology Information Service" from July 1989 as a part of Nikkei Telecom Package, which is online information service using personal computers for its terminals. Previously Nikkei's database service mainly covered such areas as economy, corporations and markets. On the other hand, the new "Industry/Technology Information Service" (main data covers industry by industry information-semi macro) is attracting a good deal of attention as it is the first to supply science and technology related database which has not been touched before. Moreover it is attracting attention technically as it has an access by gateway system to JOIS which is the first class science technology file in Japan. This report introduces data and system of "Industry/Technology Information Service" briefly.

    Information for an enterprise should be transformed to knowledge or strategies which can be utilized in various situations, and further, it should be brought closer to business operations in some way or other. For this realization, a business entity must posses information fully in common and actively make the most of it. At the same time, antennae, which positively take in information from the outside of a company, need to be spread. Information is indispensable for an organization to be a "NEURON", to keep up with any change just like the one of a creature. Our continuous challenge will lead to the birth of a tougher living organization. Here we would like to present you our new attempts and some crucial points. We hope this will help you to build and utilize an information system of this kind.
