JOURNAL FREE ACCESSProf. Terada has recently discussed (not yet published) on the relation between the observed frequency of earthquakes and the distribution of seismological stations. This paper is made by the same idea on the relation between the frequency of earthquakes observed at a station and the seismic energy as well as the depth of focus. After some theoretical treatments are made, it is statistically investigated by the actual data of earthquake frequency observed at the Central Meteorological Observatory, Tôkyô. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThis problem was already qualitatively investigated by Dr. K. Wadati. (Geophys. Mag. Vol. VI, No.3.) In this paper, however, is treated quantitatively the same subject from the observational data of many earthquakes occurred in the Kwantô-district. The result obtained gives the same tendency as that given by him, since the phenomena of irregular propagation are affirmed to be closely related to the distribution of gravity anomaly. But the deviated values of arrival time of P-wave obtaind in this investigation are tolerably small compared with those formerly obtained by Dr. Wadati in his 3rd paper of “Deep and Shallow Earthquakes” (Geophys. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSWhen we observe humidity by a wet-and-dry-bulb hygrometer, we notice that the depression of the wet-bulb-thermometer depends on the length of the string and size of the the water vessel to dip this string in. The author investigated these effects experimentally and got the result that the former effect is sensibly great but the latter is negligibly small. He has found that in the average of about 60 observations a psychrometer with 8cm string shows humidity about 2% too high compared with one with 5cm string when the humidity is about 50%.View full abstractDownload PDF (130K) -

Periods of 24 years, 6 years and 4 years seem to exist in the secular variations which may be related to the area of sun spots. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe signal audibility, fading and atmospheric disturbance on short-wave reception from Effel Tower were observed at Okinawa daily at 5.55 AM from November, 1929 to March, 1930 and in the same period in 1930 to 1931; and their daily variations and also the magnetic variability at Kakioka are shown graphically. The writer reports on the results of investigation on the correlation between the daily magnetic variability and the signal audibility, and on the relation between the magnetic character and the signal fading.
