This report presents the findings of macro-analysis of research misconduct in Japan with a view to helping increase awareness of and controlling such unethical behavior. The author carried out the study by collecting open information on cases of scientific fraud uncovered in Japan, including data fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism, and organizing it as necessary, e.g., by the process from a misconduct identification, investigation through to a decision, to examine what characterizes Japan's research misconduct.
