A myriad of fascinating properties have been proposed for unconventional superconductors in the presence of a strong magnetic field. Among the possible exotic superconducting (SC) phases, a spatially nonuniform SC state originating from the paramagnetism of conduction electrons has become a subject of particular interest after the pioneering work by Fulde and Ferrell and as well Larkin and Ovchinnikov (FFLO) in the mid-1960's. We present here ultrasound and NMR studies of the quasi-2D heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn_5 with extremely large Pauli paramagnetic susceptibility, which is believed to host a FFLO state. We are able to establish clear evidences of the spatially-inhomogeneous SC state at high field and low temperatures, precisely as expected in a FFLO state.

The development of the diamond-anvil cell has revolutionized the high-pressure studies in various fields of science, including physics, chemistry, geophysics, materials science and biology. In the present article, I describe the current status of the techniques for generating ultrahigh pressures. We have tested beveled anvils made of different types of diamond (Ia, Ib, and IIa) and compared the pressure generation. Some problems with the helium-pressure medium are also discussed.

Molecular frame (e, 2e) spectroscopy has been proposed based on measurement of vector correlations among the two outgoing electrons and the fragment ion by a triple coincidence technique. We believe that further attempts along this line would develop unexploited possibilities of (e, 2e), opening the door for detailed studies of bound electronic wavefunctions of molecules as well as of stereodynamics of electron-molecule collisions.

At the KEK B-factory experiment, we have discovered a new type of B meson decay channel in which the third generation b quark decays into the first generation d quark through the "penguin" transition. We describe the analysis, its impact to the picture of the elementary particles and the future prospects.

We found that several hundred secondary electrons are emitted during specular reflection of a fast ion at single crystal surfaces. Emission of such a large number of secondary electrons results in microscopic charging behind the ion, which induces a strong positive electrostatic potential, called "surface track potential." The effects of the surface track potential on the secondary electrons and the ion itself are discussed.
