Quantum annealing is a generic algorithm intended for solving optimization problems by using quantum fluctuations. This algorithm can be regarded as a generic technique in quantum computation. Quantum annealing is very simple and yet applicable in principle to any optimization problems. It is also closely related to quantum adiabatic algorithm. In this article, we elucidate the current status and present a future outlook for quantum annealing.

Discovery of the strongly correlated quark-gluon plasma at RHIC is based on a hydrodynamical model, which is a macroscopic picture model introduced by Landau to describe a multiple production phenomena. Field theoretical derivation and the applicability conditions of the model were established by the late Professor Mikio Namiki and his collaborators. After reviewing the discussions done by Namiki et al, we briefly survey the physics of sQGP at RHIC from the point of view of a hydrodynamical model.

PMN relaxor is shown to be a nanosized ferroelectric from the polarization, lattice dynamics and transmission electron microscopic measurements. Its ferroelectric state broken in nanosized domains due to the quenched random field was clearly observed by aligning the domains along the same direction by a strong electric field for T<T_c〜225K. The reorientation of such nanosized domain is found to be essential for its giant dielectric response. In addition, a multiscale inhomogeneity of domain structure is found in the ferroelectric phase, in which many nanosized domains align together to form a single larger 'domain'.

Cytoskeleton is a typical nonequilibrium composite which provides a cellular scaffolding. We measured the dynamics and mechanical properties of a simple model system consisting of myosin II, actin filaments, and cross-linkers. Athermal fluctuations in this system are obtained using microrheology techniques as a violation of fluctuation-dissipation theorem, which allows us to quantify the strength and kinetics of motor activity. Stresses arising from motor activity controll the cytoskeletal network mechanics. We present a quantitative theoretical model connecting the large-scale properties of this active gel to molecular force generation.

We will discuss a recent progress of the theoretical research on the electromagnon, i.e., magnon activated by the electric field of light in multiferroics. Owing to the large energy scale of electric field relative to that of magnetic field, the electromagnon can be intensely excited in contrast to the usual magnetically activated magnon. As one of the interesting phenomena associated with the intense electromagnon excitation, we will introduce a recent theoretical proposal of the fast manipulation of the spin chirality in multiferroics by irradiating an optical pulse with THz frequency.

It is now widely accepted that most of normal galaxies have their central supermassive black holes (SMBHs). However, the formation and evolution of SMBHs is still open question and a hot topic in astrophysics. In this article, we review recent theoretical studies on the formation of SMBHs in the center of galaxies, and mention the importance of constructing a multi-scale theoretical model.
