The anomalous magnetic moment, or g-2, of the electron was discovered in 1947 and was shown to be a quantum-field-theoretic effect in 1948. Since then, precision of both experiment and theory have been greatly improved. The relative uncertainty of electron g-2 is now about 10^<-9>. The muon g-2 was also measured precisely and reached the relative uncertainty of 10^<-6>. Comparing theory and experiment in such a high precision, we might be able to detect a hint of new physics beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles.

Measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is one of the most promising low-energy experiments which have sensitivity to new physics beyond the standard model. At present, the discrepancy between theory and experiment is reported to be about 2.7σ level, which may indicate a contribution from new physics, possibly from a supersymmetric theory. In this article I would like to explain how the theoretical prediction for muon g-2 is calculated, with a special emphasis on the hadronic contribution, which is most poorly known. I also discuss near future prospects for reducing theoretical uncertainties and implications for the minimal supersymmetric standard model.

Two-body problem for the gravity is very classical, which dates back to the beginning of the seventeenth century, when Kepler discovered the laws of motion of celestial objects. This problem has been solved in the Newtonian mechanics. Nevertheless, there still remains an unsolved inverse problem related with observations: When an orbital plane of two bodies is inclined with respect to the line of sight, observables are their positions projected onto a celestial sphere. How do we determine the orbital elements from observations? Recently, the "exact solution" has been found. It is reviewed with some related topics.

We, here, introduce transport properties and carrier scattering mechanism of a new transparent conductor, anatase Ti_<1-x>Nb_xO_2 epitaxial thin film. Anatase TiO_2, a wide gap semiconductor, show semiconductor to metal transition on Nb doping. It became clear that Ti 3d conduction band has weak nonparabolicity. Further, we revealed that the carrier scattering is dominated by grain boundaries and neutral impurity scattering.

Dynamical processes inside of bulk solids induced by penetrating fast heavy ions are studied through the observation of ultrasonic waves. Applying a seismological method, the relation between the mass motion inside a solid and the elastic wave is described. Our experiment is presented where solid samples were irradiated with a single-bunch ion beam of 3.8-GeV Ar ions and ultrasonic waveforms were observed with piezoelectric sensors at different directions from the beam spot. The analyses of the position dependence of the ultrasonic waveform thus obtained show that the Ar-ion irradiation induces a nearly isotropic expansion confined in the bulk.

Three-colored two-dimensional tilings like textile designs have been obtained by means of the self-organization of ABC star block copolymers. These tilings are well described by Archimedean tilings studied by Kepler. Recently, an Archimedean tiling (3^2.4.3.4) having more complex molecular environments was found. This structure is known as the σ phase in the Frank-Kasper complex alloy family. Furthermore, it is an approximant of dodecagonal quasicrystals.
