    Gas chromatography has established itself as one of the most versatile and practical analytical methods in these few years. In petroleum industry, it is used not only as separating and analytical methods in research laboratory, but as routine type analyses for process control. Especially, in petroleum hydrocarbon analysis, it has already been attained a position comparable to mass and infrared spectrometry.
    Many procedures have already been standardized within our organization. Authers satisfactorily used gas-liquid partition chromatography for analysis of cracked gas, which is important feed stocks for petroleum chemicals processes. In this paper they describe the outline of this method, and present the summeries of literatures on separating light petroleum distillates containing paraffins, naphthenes and olefins, and on that of aromatic hydrocarbons.

    this review, firstly, a general description on liquid chromatography is given briefly. Next, relating to its application to fuel oil studies, the analytical separation of the constituents, the separation of minor nonhydrocarbon constituents, the recovery of benzene and toluene (Arosorb Process) are taken up here, and relating to the application to lubricating oil studies, the analytical separation of the constituents, the distribution of sulfur compounds among the fractions, separation of additives as well as the estimation of the change in composition by refining processes, the separation of the materials causing the emulsion troubles in treating, the studies on the correlation between composition and performance are illustrated and as for the application to asphalts, analytical separation of the constituents, the studies on the composition and the performance are described.
    Finally, some applications to the allied substances of petroleum are shown.

    The first isopropanol and acetone plant from petroleum cracking gas started its operation from May 1957 at Kawasaki factory of Nippon Petrochemical Co. This report is about its operation. The plant contists of following five processes, sulfonation of propylene, hydrolysis of propyl sulfonate, refining of crude isopropanol, concentration of spent sulfuric acid, and oxidation of isopropanol to acetone, and has the capacity of 2, 000t/year of isopropanol and 3, 500t/year of acetone.

    The first Udex plant is on stream at Kawasaki refinery of Mitsubishi Oil Co. ASTM nitration grade benzene, toluene and xylene are manufactured from platformate of C6-C8 naphthenic straight-run naphtha. The author introduced abont the flow sheet, apparatus, operation conditions, feed stocks and products.

    In the extraction of aromatics from hydrocarbon mixture, authors studied a double solvent extraction in which phenol and Minas gas oil were used as solvents.For this purpose, two bench scale extraction columns were constructed and worked under continious counter-current.
    Rotating Disc Contactors of different types were used and their ability was compared.Feed was prepared by blending aromatics and gasoline fraction having the same boiling range.
    The stage efficiency of the column which had 4.16cm diameler was almost 4-6% and HETS was 30-35cm. One of their results was as follow when feed containing 25. 1vol.-%aromatics was used, the extracted hydrocarbons and the raffinated contained aromatics of 87.6vol.-% and 1.5vol.-% respectively. By fractional distillation of the extracted hydrocarbons, high purity aromatics were got; the purity of henzene fraction was 98.6vol.-%, toluene fraction 98.8vol.-%, and xylene fraction 97.5vol.-% respectively.
