The fluid catalytic cracking unit at the Yokohama refinery of Nippon Petroleum Refining Company was completed in December of 1954, and has been on stream since January of 1955. The unit is Model N developed by Esso Research and Engineering Company, formerly Standard Oil Development Company, and is designed to process 10, 080 BPD total feed composed of 5, 600 BPD fresh feed which is made up of distillates and decarbonized oil from Minas crude and 4, 480 BPD of slurry recycle to produce high octane motor-fuel blending stock. The unit has performed excellently without any trouble, giving high yield of superior cracked gasoline. Cracked gas oil of low sulfur content is obtained and is useful for the blending of low sulfur fuel oil. Liquified petroleum gas from the unit contains valuable constituents and finds a universal application in the field of petrochemical industry.
