Atmospheric Pollution by sulfur oxides is rapidly becoming a serious problem.
No process being studied for desulfurising flue gases has reached a state where it can be recommended as technically and economically feasible.
Sulfur oxides removal processes have been actively researched, especially in Japan and U S.
It seems that some equipments economically available to abate the emission of sulfur oxides will be completed by aditional research and development in the near future.

The carbonaceous products generated during the combustion of heavy fuel oil spray can be classified into two groups. One of them is the carbonaceous product so called “soot” which is deposited from gasphase and the other is the residual carbon so called “coke” from liquidphase. The generative processes of the two types are discussed.
Through some considerations of single droplet combustion, the coke generative droplet diameter can be written as the following equation.
    Dp crit=K√ksθ
If the maximum diameter of the heavy fuel oil droplets is smaller than the value of K√ksθ all residual carbon particles and soot particles should be burnt out completely. The relations between the distribution and mean diameters of the atomized heavy fuel oil droplets and the residual carbon particles are discussed.

This paper treats about the present situation and the problems existing in treatment and disposal of refuses of the city, that were talken in the lecture meeting of this society.
City refuses mean all the waste solids made in the cities and towns and contain both refuses from home, shops, offices and factories.
About the half of these wastes are now treated by incinerating, and incinaration of refuses is thought to become more popular in the future. Then we must plan to make the best use of the waste heat from the refuse incineration plants.

Recent pervation of the residential central space heating is remarkable. This is supported by remarkable incleasing of national income and recognition about improvement of living environments which are compared with air conditioned environ-ments in general office buildings.
At the begining, this paper explains on the residential central space heating as compared with inddividual space heating and district heating. See Table 1 and Fig.3.
The residential central heating systems are classified into three groups by heat medium for space heating. Those are all-air system (warm air heating system), all-water system (hot water heating system) and air-water system (fan coil unit and supplementary hot air). A air-water system is too complicate to residence use, so it is scarcely used.
All the system has a boiler or a hot air furnace or a heat pump as heat producing equipment. A boiler and hot air furnace is selected frequently, but a heat pump system is scarcely selected. Because initial cost of a heat pump system for heating only is comparatively high-priced, but for yearound air conditioning competes with other systemsin initial cost.
Moreover this paper shows, there are some problems awaiting solution about system planning and designing. For instance one of the problems is usage of a domestic hot water supply system or a summer cooling system together with a heating system itself.

A short history of the past International Symposia on Combustion held under the sponsorship of the Combustion Institute was written.
The technical and social events of the Twelfth Symposium held at Poitiers, France, on July 14-20, 1968, were briefly described together with some comments by Japanese participants.

Questions on incineration plants and their technical problems were mailed to many cities and towns by the subcommittee and 52 answers were recieved. In this report are contained a general remarks on the types and structures of incinerators and a summary of the answers. In Japan many mechanical incinerators have been constructed in recent few years, and many technical problems have been experienced especially at their moving parts. But now they are fairly improved in the present constructions.
