    The following equation, derived by P. Rosin and E. Rammler, was reported to be in good agreement with experimental results about many foreign coals.

    where R;Residue on the screen of opening x, n, b;Constants The authors tried to determine the accuracy of this. fornrula, about Japanese coals.And, using ball mill as pulverizer, the relations between constants, n, b, and condi-tions of pulverizing, kinds of coals, degree of coalification were experiMentalily determined, and furthermore, criticized the meaning of A.S.T.M.Ball mill method, Shatter Test method of J.E. S., Drum Test method of J.E.S., Hardgrove method, etc.

    From a view-point of manufacture of coke, the author reviewed more than 50 researches on the caking and coking properties of coal carried out in Japan.These reports were classified into the following paragraphs according to the contents and each outline was described.(1) The method of the determination of the caking power of coal, (2) The action of bitumen, (3) The role of humin substance, (4) The coking property, (5) The factors influencing on the coking property, (6) Preparation of hard cokes from domestic weakly coking coals.

    The author described the situation of petroleum refining industry in Japan before 1945, and the details of the damages sustained by air raid. After the late War, the refineries in the Pacific coast were closed and only those in the Japan Sea coast were on work, treating Japanese crude oil.Meanwhile, Mr.Edwin Porley and Strike's Misson contended that the Pacific coast refiners should be disposed as reparations or scraps. Afterwards, the reopening of the Pacific coast refineries was taken into plan by Noel's Report.The details about the permission.for reopening as well as import of crude oil and the restoration plan of those refineries were descri-bed.Then, the author discussed on the capacity of refineries, the nature of crude stock, the kind and the management of plant, and petrochemical problems etc., and also described how the petroleum companies cooperated with the foreign capitals.
