The purpose of this study is to evaluate the contribution of the road traffic vibrations to the noise annoyance by using the surveyed data in Sapporo. Path analysis was used to estimate the direct and indirect effects of sixteen independent variables on noise annoyance. The principal findings are as follows : 1) The strong direct effects are for disturbance of falling asleep, bother-someness of vibration, noise level presented by L_<eq(24)> and awakening. 2) Vibration level presented by VL_<10> have the strong indirect effect on noise annoyance. 3) The effect of 10dB of VL_<10> on the noise annoyance is equal to that of about 3.5 dBA of L_<eq(24)>.

We conducted an experiment with actual windows in the rooms to examine the applicability of the formulae validated with simulated window to actual windows. Generally subjective evaluation in this experiment had the same tendency as our previous results with simulated window. However, both DGI and UGR were considered insufficient to predict glare sensation in all conditions. Inconsistency was shown in the case of very large source and in the difference in window orientation. Overating background luminance in these formulae must contribute to this reason. From the multiple regression analysis it was found that "the effect of total amount of light" must not be neglected in the case of a large light source.

Planning of residential provisions for the ever increasing elderly persons in a society should take into consideration not only its present actual conditions but also its traditional socio-cultural norms. With this, objective in mind, this study outlines findings and their analysis of a series of field surveys in four areas of Taiwan carried out to observe and record current residential provisions for the elderly persons, healthy as well as handicapped, in Taiwanese houses which range from traditional to modern. We pay special attentions to peculiar conditions created by traditional design features of Taiwanese houses and extended family structure.

This paper aims to clarify the structure of problems concerning planning and built environment on national university campuses by using DEMATEL method. At first, 38 problems are selected and interrelations of these problems are investigated. Secondly, the structural model of these problems is constructed in the form of a multilevel digraph. Finally, main routes of influences are extracted through an inspection of this structural model.

This is an experimental study with eye-camera to investigate eye fixation behavior in 7 demential elderly, 4 mentally retarded and 7 normal persons, while their walking on setting routes for wayfinding cues as a moving arrow sign, a static arrow sign and room number signs. As a result, we find that eye fixations in demential elderly group tend to be biased to floor portions. Three groups show more eye fixations on the moving arrow sign than the static arrow sign. We infer that the moving sign raise visual perception level as a wayfinding cue for demential elderly and mentally retarded groups.

The purpuse of this paper is to analyze the process of making the panels, the condition of construction, the airtightness and the percentage of the water content of the wooden frame of the house which was constructed with insulating panels from the outside of the laminated wooden frame. The results of this study were as follows : 1) The construction method with panels decreased the man-days for building by 19 in comparison with the traditional method of working at the building site. 2) The percentages of the water content of the wooden groundsill and the wooden frame of panels varied from 5 to 12 % in all season, which means that there is little danger of rotting. 3) The effective open area of the house remained about 2.5cm^2 per floor area for half a year from the moving-in. The airtightness of the house also remained in good condition.

Human factors as for falls on stairs were experimentally analyzed to obtain fundamental data to evaluate dimensions of tread and rise in regard to safety on stairs. A devised apparatus to give abrupt accelerations to a human standing posture on stairs was applied. Remarkable distinction of human balancing ability on different dimensions of tread and rise could not be found both in a young group or in an aged group. And then, gait movements on stairs in relation to stumbling, mis-footing etc. were experimentally analyzed. Some accidental factors, foot contact angles with tread etc., were closely correlated to dimensions of tread and rise. Many basic considerations could be obtained from these experiments.

This paper analyzes the process how the government sanction had been obtained to the plan on the First Lake Biwa Drainage Project. The conclusions are as follows, 1) Distinguished officials in Meiji Government agreed to this plan, because they had pursued the modernization of the town and country to build up the national power. 2) Public Works Bureau in the Ministry of National Affairs under the influence of Chosyu Group, approved this plan in 1885, after driving away the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce under the influence of Satsuma Group. 3) Kyoto Prefecture had arranged the reasonable plan, the financial estimate and resources for this project upon which Meiji Government was able to step into the agreement on the sanction.

In this paper, I have studied some theoretical aspects of the method for estimating the distribution of buildings life time using age grouped survival and demolished data. In former papers, I and co-authors used a variation of so-called "accumulated hazard method" in the reliability theories. But considering the continuity of the remaining function, I have found that another method, which is similar to the one used in ordinary life time examinations, is also more appropriate in case of making life table or synthesizing age grouped death rate data. This process is computerized and some other programs, like calculating reliable range of the results or estimating the parameters of the remaining function forms, have been developed.

This paper reports on the life time of various kind of Japanese houses estimated by using a method similar to making life table of human being. Defining the representative value of life time as when the half of a cohort should be demolished, wooden residential houses have 38-year life, and wooden apartment houses have 32-year life. Another four type of houses, those of reinforced concrete and those of steel frame, were also investigated. And their life times do not differ much from those of the wooden ones. Two types of office buildings were also investigated for reference, and they had similar or a little shorter life time than the houses.

This study deals with the proposer and the first idea of the Templo de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, by examining the origin and development of the Asociacion Espiritual de Devotos de San Jose founded in 1866. As a result, it is made clear that Bocabella was not only the founder of the association but also the poposer of the temple, and no the father Jose Mananet. From the beginning the purpose of the temple was very spiritual and symbolical as well as his association.
