Some building materials which are frequently used indoors were chosen to determine the speed and the range of temperature and relative humidity of atmosphere of fungal growth. The fungi tested were six groups which were collected in dwelling and identified. New "tatami" mat, plywood, plywood with surface coating with plastic material, plaster-board, hinoki, sugi matu and later "tatami" mat and straw-base were used to determine the possibility of growth at 25°C, 100 % RH. With tatami mat, new and old, and straw-base, the growth speeds were determined at both four temperature (5, 15, 25, 35°C) and at five kind of humidity conditions (100, 90, 85, 75, 66 %) were tested. With tatami straw-base all fungi showed significant growth at all conditions.

The object of this study is the establishment of the estimation methods of urban space form by remote sensing data. In this paper, the relationship between Landsat TM data and shade distribution by buildings was investigated by survey and simulation for urban space model. In the three or more storied building areas, the coefficient of correlation between the building coverage and the average of CCT counts of Band 4, 5, 6 or 7 was a negative value. The three or more storied building areas exhibited higher standard deviations of CCT counts than one or two storied building areas. And, these results of survey were theoreticaly substantiated by simulation.

We investigated the differences of physiological and psychological responses among four seasons when room temperature changed from discomfort to neutral conditions. Mean skin temperature decreased more rapidly and heart rate decreased more gradually in summer than in winter when room temperature was lowered 34→26°C. Thermal comfort in summer was related to cool sensation, while that in winter was associated to warm sensation. The physiological changes in fall and spring were between summer and winter. On the other hand, the psychological changes in fall and spring resembled those in summer and winter respectively, which showed dissociation from the physiological changes.

The series of this reports is to be tried to get the characteristics of the loan flow in a public library's network of metropolis. The flow is drawn by smoothing lines that are computed by Iterated Moving Average Method. This study is to seize the influence of the existing libraries' flow by openning of the adjacent new library. In this study, I could find out the interesting flow, when it is affected by the impact (not strong) of openning. It draws sometimes the U-line like the locus when a bowl bounds once.

In this study, a wayfinding experiment in a maze was undertaken, where each pedestrian drew the imaginary path which he was trying to take at the starting point and at each point where his path image changed. Since path images corresponded to the actual paths which were taken by pedestrians, pedestrians can be regarded as walking on the basis of their path images in their mind. According to the tendencies of change of path images, the simulation model for wayfinding behavior was updated, and availability of the model was acknowledged by the inspection of the simulation examples.

The purpose of this study was to develop an effective questionnair for determinning elements of city image by a trial questinnair based on inhabitant's recognition of domain, and to analyse the image structure of three small cities (Ono, Takayama, and Kameoka) which have historical districts. The result revealed that three types of questions (involving "characteristic feature", "entrance", and "surroundings") were particularly useful. In adittion, we clarified the relationship between an element's imageability in proportion to distance in terms of element's attributes and compered the image elements patterns of inhabitants living in historic and modern districts.

Remarkable progressing on technical computer image analysis shows us inexperienced but possible method to grasp man's visual recognition quantatiyely from digital image. Two characters, horizontality and verticality, seem to strongly concern with optical perception of street view. In this paper, we explained the concept of measure to grasp strength of direction, which is defined by edges and lines got from digital image, and proposed measures for horizontality and verticality. As the result of apllication of measures to 64 images of street veiw : (1) We made possibility clear to grasp strength of horizontality and verticality. (2) We got 4 comprehensible clusters by cluster analysis, using 3 quantative measures proposed in this paper.

After the Trajanic age onwards, the Romans produced the various facade designs of the Roman Commemorative Arch. In this stage, we obseve the following two steps : in the first step the facade designs maintained the strict principle of classical orders, and in the second step orders turned to be one of the decorative elements on the facade by loosing the classical rule. Finally, the author shows a new scheme representing the whole process of architectural developments and changes of facade designs of the Roman Commemorative Arch, and proposes that the process is chronologically divided into five periods.

This paper analyzes development of the International Style architecture in the United States before 1932, especialy in the field of multistory building. The development, begining in 1926, can be divided into four phases. The first phase appers in some pioneer's projects. Four conditional characteristics of the International Style apper in this phase. In the second phase, a pseudoribbon window is used for emphasis on horizontality. In the third phase, a ribbon window supported by cantileverd floor slab makes strong horizontal sense. Finally in the fourth phase, elemental composition appers in some works.

The concepts of "spirit" and of "the spiritual" are prominent in F. L. Wright's thought about organic architecture. The present article tries to explore their relation to his architectural theory and practice. It evokes the architect's religious background and spiritualism influenced by New England Transcendentalism, and its relation with oriental and Japanese mysticism. Wright's concept of spirit may help understand better his architectural design, and especially its characteristics of "fusion," of transcending dualism, of evocating vital power and "Life," potentiality and intangibility, and its use of materials according to their "nature."

In a process of architectural design, designers refer "design rules" that exist among building elements : shapes, connections, and positions are some of them. However, most CAD do not have convenient utilities to handle them, but ask designers to manipulate graphic entities that indicate outlines of building elements, referring rule based operations in his image. For the purpose of developing an intelligent CAD in which designers can manipulate design rules and in which graphic entities can be automatically edited once design change occurs, this paper has proposed an object oriented system that handles three types of "relational information" that correspond to design rules.
