In order to assess the characteristics of luminance distribution in diverse visual environments, the authors measured luminance distribution in a wide variety of visual environments. At first we focused attention on the strength of these luminance variations, but we were not able satisfactorily to express qualitative differences among visual environments in this way. Next, therefore, we focused on positioning that gave rise to strong luminance variations, and we were thus able to express the characteristics of luminance variations in terms of the degree of fineness which could be detected in those luminance variations. It thus became apparent that it is possible to express in this way the characteristics of luminance distribution within the visual environment.

With a view to simultaneously and precisely measuring the subtle air temperature distribution in the air atomosphere at multiple points on the wall surface of the room in the vicinity of the opening exposed to short wave radiation, the air temperature measuring system which actively sucks the air to be measured and which can suppress the amount of air suction required for a single-point measurement to approx. 0.96 cubic centimeter has been developed. In this system, the 20 mm chromel-alumel thermocouple with a diameter of 12 μm is suspended inside the 250 mm-long shielded cylinder with an inner diameter of 0.8 mm and outer diameter of 2.0 mm in such a way that thermocouple does not come into contact with the internal wall of the cylinder, then the shielded cylinder is connected via the miniature solenoid valve to the compact chamber box which can control the pressure to any required negative pressure with respect to the atmospheric pressure. The operating settings at which the amount of air suction was minimized were a suction drive pressure of 85 mmHg, and a solenoid valve release time of 50 ms.

In this paper we present a simplified calculation method of the house infiltration rates with the building air tightness. The characteristic of the method is able to estimate the infiltration rates for combination of out door wind speed and indoor-outdoor temperatuer difference. The proposed calculation method was tested using the measured infiltration data of a experimental house for a year. A results of the comparison between the calculations and measurements showed that the agreement between the prediction and the measurement was also within 0.1 volume par hour.

This study investigates lifestyles in large-scale, newly dwelling houses in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, focussing on the transformation of seating style within the home. The study demonstrates that trends in changing lifestyle pattrens result in physical transformation of the home that are linked to family and personal history, disposition of furniture in the home, presence and location of Japanese vs. Western rooms, and overall floor plan structure. This part of the study identifies five evolutionary directions in contemporary Japanese lifestyles, which are related to ways in which Western-style furniture was introduced to the home.

The purpose of this research is to clarify the relations between the function and the form of Japanese wooden doors. We use the same analytic method as we used in the research for joints of post and beam members of conventional wooden houses in Japan, which we call PHF symbols that categorize their function into three types ; to put, to hook, to fix. Thus the joints of wooden doors are categorized into 18 types and each joint arranged on the PHF symbols, then clarified their current and potential funxtions and roles.

In this research, spinal cord injurd people were asked about their attributes and items in activities of daily living (ADL). These ADL were analyzed into (degree of independence) and (degree of doing). All ADL were evaluated in these two standards and the relation between these two standards. The result became clear that the index of (degree of independence) and the index of (degree of doing) made it possible for an architect to design a house in detail for spinal cord injurd people, if he has the only information on the level of injury of the person and a little about his ability in ADL.

Cable Television (CATV) has become a necessity for urban dwellers who suffer television signal reception problems. However, the individual cable system can easily become obsolete because of subsequent reception problems caused by new high-rise buidings. Therefore, the collective compensation method initiated by local government to construct CATV system covering the entire municipal district with the financial support by concerned builders would be feasible from the viewpoint of urban infrastructure. Yokkaichi City Government has recently enacted new planning regulations to cover its central district with advanced CATV system. The same idea has been adapted for Honmoku New Town of Yokohama. Yokkaichi and Honmoku both present preliminary ideas of a collective compensation method. Comparative analysis is made in order to scrutinize the feasibility and effectiveness of these methods.

This paper is concerned with a resarch of the relation among Sequence Landscape of Fundamental Space Structure, Sequence Landscape from Visual Behavior and Visual Behavior for landscape. We choose three famous round gardens, as analysis object. Goodness of landscape is formed by the fact that Sequence Landscape of Fundamental Space Structure and Sequence Landscape from Visual Behavior correspond with Visual Behavior for landscape and have a mutually complementary relation making up a slip wiht it.

"Housing standard" of third & fourth five-year program for housing constraction in JAPAN is established adopting "Total area dwelling" and "Size of dwelling rooms area of living quaters" and so on by housing type. Measuring by both, I tried to analyze the dwelling plan of "Manssion" (1208 type, 8032 houses) in Fukuoka City. After the above studies, I obtained the following results that only 15%. of the dwelling plan were up to "The Ordinary housing standard" on the both.

The history of Shin-chu could be examined in five different period based on literature (Dannshoei Ting.Jyh). That is (1) Period of Immigrant Settlements, (2) Period of Bamboo Fortification, (3) Period without Fortification, (4) Period of Mud-walled Fortification, and (4) Period of Stone Fortification and Twin-walled-city. The following historical facts have been disclosed. (1) The building of bamboo forification had a close relationship with riots. (2) It was brought to light that the bamboo fortification was not a portotype of city wall in Taiwan. (3) The immigrants had built fortification enclosing their settlement for self-defense. Therefor, city wall appeared in non-geometric form. Finally, the following result was elucidated that not only the immigrant leaders contributed money for the construction, but also commoners were forced to pay a larger balance.

Architectural Space Montage Method was thought up by author. Subject's mental schema is expected to be represented by the disposition of miniatures 1 to 50 scale on a white plate 60cm × 90cm. School children as subjects of this method tried to make models of the ideal school. The earlier disposition of the architectural space by walls without furniture showed the subject's mental schema in the developed stage of the process. An entrance was imaged as a center of school. Inconsistencies of functional relations of spaces were found in models in the undeveloped stage. The difference in schema between schizophrenic patients and children was clarified. Models by girls showed the involved character.
