In this study, the physiological and psychological effects of preferred air velocity on the human body were investigated. The air temperatures were 26°C, 28°C and 30°C, and the relative humidities were 30 %, 50 % and 80 %. The subjects were 10 healthy women sedentary in summer wear, who could regulate air velocity for 60 minutes according to their feeling of comfort. The results were as follows : (1) Increase in air temperature and humidity was compensated by increase in air velocity. (2) At the preferred air velocity, the subjects reported "slightly cool", and "comfortable". (3) At 26°C and 28°C, the preferred air velocity was faster than the air velocity predicted by SET* and Fanger's comfort equation.

A ventilation method to attain an improved indoor air quality under effective use of energy was examined in a small office type experimental room. The experiments were carried out using human subjects. This paper reports the possibilities of ventilation efficiency improvement and lessening of ventilation requirements when upward ventilation is applied, compared to downward ventilation. Upward ventilation leads the high ventilation efficiency because upward ventilation utilizes upward free convection caused by the metabolic heat around a human body. Therefore less ventilation requirement allows to realize a hygienic space with upward ventilation compared to traditional mixing ventilation.

A river has a good effect on the micro-climate of surrounding areas when natural cooling winds are needed in the hot summer season in Japan. In order to clarify the effective arrangement of buildings around the river, wind tunnel experiments were conducted. The water channel in the wind tunnel is 2000 mm long and 200 mm wide in full scale. The effects of the body of water were detected through analysis of the humidity distribution around it. The results suggest that the location and direction to wind of buildings are important, as well as the building density around the water surface.

This paper aims to make research on the desire of relation between the drawing-rooms and guest-rooms, and LDK-rooms, bedrooms and so on. The questionnaire on 764 samples in 17 planning types, 3LDK and 4LDK, shows such results as follows. The location of drawing-rooms and guest-rooms is influenced from the floor space and daylight of LDK-rooms. In many cases, the drawing-rooms are LD-rooms, and the guest-rooms are next room of LDK-rooms or the greater rooms. And the rate of the greater rooms increases a little with the life stage. But there are social strata who prefer the greater rooms for them.

We investigated the behavior of 456 patients of nine wards of two hospitals and two nursing-homes at every ten minutes in all days (6:00-21:00). And these data are analyzed for the difference in attributes and facilities' environment. Some conclusions are as follows : The rate of out-room is related with the quality of day-space and [the rate of active behavior+out-room] might stand for the desire of behavior and distributes similarly in any facilities.

The study attempts to define the dwelling style in rural Japan before some changes occurred in the modernization process, by comparing it with that of today. It also clarifies the behavioral pattern underlying the dwelling style of modern Japanese. Materials for study depend on the photographic data of its collection published. It is each behavior, body movement, spaces and furnishings were used daily for living activities, that have extracted from the photographic data. The behavioral patterns of rural people in their dwellings in 1950's were varied but typical of the time, closely related with the structure of living spaces. The purpose of this paper is to analyze characteristics of land use change in relation to distance from CBD, using land use transition matrix. Adopted analyzing method is spectral representation of original transition matrix using eigenvalue and eigenvector. As result of positive analysis, the invariant distribution of each area has close relationship to urbanization potential and kind of land use designated district.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the conditions of housing owned by the households including persons aged 65 and over, using the data of 1988 Housing survey of Japan. The summary of the results is as follows: 1) The ratio of households with aged persons is higher in owner-occupied housing than in rented housing. The ratio is also influenced by such factors as the year of construction and the size of housing. 2) Households with aged persons tend to live in their housing continuously for a long time. This tendency is shown more clearly in detached houses than in apartment houses. 3) Living condition of households with aged persons are different by their family members. While many households which consist of aged persons and their children live in relatively crowded conditions, a considerable number of households consisting of aged persons living by themselves are undercrowded.
