Precedent research on wind induced noise in buildings can hardly be found, so that its physical characteristics and effects on residential amenity still remain uncertain. Authors conducted full-scale measurements on wind noise in four high-rise apartments and discussed on the subjects as follows, 1)relation between Leq of wind noise and mean windspeed, 2)effectiveness of gust factor and wind direction on the relationship between Leq and windspeed, 3) difference in wind noise among rooms and buildings. Also definitions of "Effective Windspeed V_e", "Control Windspeed V_c", and "N-value Equivalent Windspeed V_<N->**" are presented as quantitave parameters to evaluate its effect on amenity.

The sky luminance is assumed to be uniformly distributed in a method for calculating indoor daylight illuminance using Direct Sunlight Factor, Diffuse Sky Light Factor and Reflected Daylight Factor. Actual sky, however, has a distribution. Therefore the sky luminance distribution has been extensively measured and its mathematical modeling has also been studied by various researchers. Here, in this paper, we first discuss how to incorporate the effects of non-uniform distribution of sky luminance into the method for calculating indoor daylight illuminance using Direct Sunlight Factor. Then we investigate to what extent the non-uniform sky luminance distributions affect the indoor daylight illuminance. As the results of this investigation, the influence of the sky luminance distribution on the indoor daylight illuminance is rather small except a case in which the sky is assumed to be clear and no direct sunlight is assumed to be incident on a window without a shading device.

This study aims to develop a numerical method for predicting smoke movement caused by fires. The Boussinesq approximation can not be applied to such variable density flow with high temperature difference. However it is very difficult to simulate the variable density flow with low Mach number by usual simulation method used for analyzing compressible flow with high Mach number. In this study, the constant pressure in space is assumed for the equation of state so that the pressure fluctuation concerning sound propagation should be negleted. For the first step of this study, the simulation methods for analyzing equations mentioned above are tested by calculating laminar free convection along a heated vertical flat plate.

This study is a continuation of our previous research where we investigated family relations and housing conditions of the elderly, living independently or with families in Taiwan where Confucianism is still held as a strong traditional value. Institutions for the elderly in Taiwan can be classified into official 'anyean' facilities registered and supported under the Elderly Welfare Law and unregulated private feecharging facilities. In this study we have carried out two field surveys in Taiwan. Firstly we have circulated a questionnaire among all of the official 'anyean' facilities and secondly we have investigated both official and private facilities in Tainan hsien and Kaohsiung hsien. Through these surveys we have found problems that should be solved and directions that should be followed in the future.

This paper aims to clarify relations of users' satisfaction and behaviors to seat layout. Effectiveness of designed physical environment on users is important viewpoint in facility management of common space. Users' satisfaction and particular behavior observed at and around each set of seats result from the seat layout types, showing the capacity of designed physical environment ('affordance'.). In this way, lounge-type seat layout is physical setting affording various relationships of users to designed physical environment and parallel-type seat layout is efficient but doubtful in its effectiveness. This paper concludes the importance for designed physical environment to provpke users awareness of its usages by itself.

We can find various types of extensions of private commodities such as plant-boxes, bicycles and other household goods in alley-space which tenement style houses are faced. We sometimes assert that the closed type public space facilitates private use more than the open type. But, the results of five surveys on the private commodities in 53 alley-spaces reject this hypothesis. These suggest that habitants in the open type alley-space use public space privately for making their tight community space and their behavior do not block the passage in public alley-space.

In urban fringe areas living environment problems arise from rural-urban mixture, and it is important for the area residents, the long-term residents and the more recent arrivals, to have common concepts regarding the problems. The analysis resulted in the following conclusion : "The long-term residents and the more recent arrivals have differing concepts and expectations regarding the role and function of local public organizations, independently-run community organizations and neighborhood groups ; "The mixture of the long-term and newer residents in the same neighborhood areas effectively promotes better understanding and greater resolution of problems arising between the two groups ; and "Certain community activities are effective in promoting a greater mutual understanding between the two groups, especially concerning their differing values and beliefs.

There are dispersed settlements all around Iki Island. "Hure" is an agricultural community and "Koju" is a group for belief in the neigbourhood. They support isolated families in dispersed settlements with their social bands. Spatial structure of "Hure" setllements is considered a cluster whitch consists of sets of "wind breaker + dwelling lot + front field" as its unit. There are many buildings in a dwelling lot consisting of a main house, a retreat, a cookig hut, cowsheds, barns, drying huts of tabacco plants etc. Conserving the units should be very important for keep of living space and environment of the settlements form the viewpoint of ecology.

The purpose of this paper is to research about shrines and their surroundings in the Oki islands, and to clarify the system of composition in landscaping. The characteristic geographical feature as a spatial pattern "Alternating Circles" consists of the compositions that I call a spatial pattern "Projection" and a spatial pattern "Depression" The shrines that are located on hills and its surrounding landscape express and preserve the system of traditional landscaping in Japan.

This paper analizes the practice of development control of Katsuta City in the last twenty years. It is characterized as a method for planning control to regulate private-sector development through a pre-determined district plan. Based on this study, we clarify that the roles of the plan have changed and its functions aim at the negotiation between the puplic and private sectors rather than the adjustment of a development plan to the district plan.

The purpose of this study is to understand characteristics of fluctuation in landscape quantitatively. In this paper, a method to analyze two dimensional monochrome image is proposed. And the usefulness of the method is examined by applying to 93 images of various landscapes. The results show that vertical fluctuation is affected by the composition of landscape and various landscapes can be classified into four groups by value of vertical fluctuation. Holizontal fluctuation is' affected by the detail of landscape. In addition, the influence of tree in landscape can be understood from the point of view of horizontal fluctuation.

This paper aims to clarify the planning characteristics of the newly built, detached, owned housing in prefectural government cities in Hokuriku region. First, the 1st floor plan types are classified by the configuration of the housing plan and the lot. As a result, the 1st floor plans are classified into 6 house plan types, that is, "Strip type", "Square type", "Central living type", "Hall type", "Middle corridor type" and "Farmhouse type". These house plan types have a clear relation to the frontage of lots. For example, the plan of Strip type is constituted by the shortest frontage among 6 house plan types, that is, about 3 to 4 ken. The frontage of Square type is about 5 to 7 ken, and that of Hall type is much wider, that is, more than 6 ken. As a result, this paper educes the typical pattern of house plans.

In this paper, we made a detailed comparison of "Shaki-shu" between "Shoki-shu" and "Shomei" to analyze their substantial characteristics. The results are the following. 1) Both books have little technical difference. 2) Some descriptions found only in "Shoki-shu" are merely omitted in "Shomei", and "Shoki-shu" made no spetial alteration and addition. 3) Some descriptions found only in "Shomei" are classified in parts which "Shoki-shu" carelessly omitted and in parts which "Shomei" deliberately revised and added in later ages. 4) Those deliberate alterations were made with the systematization of "Shomei", which are evident in the change of composition order.

The objective of this study is to understand the background of water related activities, which we consider as a "Water-familiar Activities". Investigations by questionnaire method were conducted on how people evaluates their living environments and how frequently those people go recreation activities. The results of the research revealed that as the urbanization is going on, the less satisfaction to residential environments and the more disperse in the activities were observed. Furthermore, it is considered that the frequency of water related human activities increase not only by urbanization but also by the accessibility to waterfront area and the environments of there.
