The effective atomic number of metal in metal carbonyl is equal to that of rare gas, and metal-carbon bond is characterized by having doable bonding of σ-and π-bon-dings.This evidence shows the existence of stable metal carbonyl compounds with diffierent steric configuration by various kinds of metals.
In the oxo reaction typical of various reactions in using the metallic carbonyl as catalyst, from the kinetic equation, products, isomerization and steric hindrance, a mechanism is postulated of the reaction that olefine is first coordinated to HCo (CO) 4 with Co2 (CO) 8 as catalyst. Reppe's alcohol synthesis can be well explained from this reaction mechanism.
The diffence between metallic carbonyl and metallic solid catalyst is that the former soluble to organic solvent acts as homogenous catalyst and as such all metal atom has equal activity.
Thus the metallic carbonyl gives selective and typical catalytic reaction. The cyclization reaction of acetylenes with the use of so-called Ziegler type catalyst such as AlR3-TiCl4, and AlR3-TiCl3 is very similar to that with metal carbonyl.

On fuel additives, the test method has not been standardized, so users have been felt inconvenience.Lately, the test method of fuel additives was provided by the technical comittees of Japanese Ship Owners Association, so the author introduces the method as follows and offer for your reference. The method is provided on specific gravity, viscosity, flash point, sulfuric ash and degree of corrosion as general properties test, and as efficiency test, breaking efficiency for emulsion of oil and water, segregation for sludge, thermal stability and rust proof are provided.Beside this, the test method of efficiency for combustibility offer too as reference, And it is the purpose that those methods emphasized the main effect of additives, Hereafter, it is happiness that this-method will be corrected by relations and will contribute to makers and users.

A practical chart has been developed and tested for determining easily the cetane index by specific gravity (15/4°C) and 50% distillated temperature of high speed diesel fuel. There has been observed ±0.2 max error in the cetane index, between the formula of JIS K-2204 and this diagram.
As a result of present investigations into several kind bases of light fuel oils, in addition, there has been shown ±2 max error in the cetane index when compared the cetane index with the cetane number measured.
In the case of commercial test it may be carefully examined when the ignition quality is replaced by the cetane index.

The conversion of methylnaphthalene and methyl-hydro-naphthalenes to Naphthalene was investigated.
Methylnaphthalene can be converted to naphthalene with high yield over chromia alumina catalyst in hydrogen atmosphere, and methylhydronaphthalenes can be also converted to naphthalene using above catalyst, not requring the two stage method_ of dehydrogenation and dealkylation, but by the simple method of controlling the temperature gradient of one catalyst zone.
The behabiour of benzene derivatives under the conditions of producing naphthalene was studied.
Alkylbenzenes are also dealkylated and the long side chains are mainly hydrocracked.but partly cyclized to form naphthalene ring.

1-Butene, 2-butene and iso-butene were hydro-formylated in the presences of cobalt naphthenate as catalyst and of Pd-zeolite as its promoter .Aldehydes thus obtained from I-butene and 2-butene were Iargely C5-normalaldehyde, while nearly 96% of the alde hyde from iso-butene was of iso-stucture.The Oxo reactions of 2-butene and iso- butene were much more accelerated by the co-presence of Pd-zeolite, compared with that of I-butene.
